Who: Caryn & Elijah
Where: Her room
When: Saturday, April 14th. Late night.
What: Caryn and Elijah have a talk, along with several other things.
Rating: PG-13ish.
Status: Complete
Caryn: To say the least, Caryn was tired. Truly she was. She wanted sleep but at the same time? She couldn't find sleep. Leaving her room, she headed out into the night to the gardens, her eyes on the tree her cousin had split in her anger. Sarah was..unpredictable at the best of times. Combo that with her innate protective instinct towards anyone Sarah considered part of her? Or that could be an important, vital part of her? She sighed, shaking her head as she ran her fingers through her hair. For now, however, she didn't want to think of Sarah. Well, she did, but at the same time? She didn't.
Elijah: Elijah had been thinking about Caryn since her cousin had informed him that his intentions had better be honorable or else. He had to speak with the girl. Not only did he want to talk to her about their conversation, but also about the issue he had with her giving blood to another guy. He knocked at her door, straightening his shirt as he awaited.
Caryn: Moving quietly, she headed back towards her room, pausing when she saw him. She was not exactly...sighing, she shook her head and tugged at the stretchy shorts before heading towards Elijah. "You know.." Her voice was light, amused. "..I was just about to head back in there myself."
Elijah: He smiled, inclining his head in a gentlemanly way. "I see you've been out and about," he said, taking in her look in a glance. He was still taken by her beauty.
Caryn: She tilted her head. "I do believe my roommates are currently asleep, but you can come in if you like." She opened the door to her room, waving him inside.
Elijah: He nodded, following her in, keeping his steps light as he followed her to her room. He shut the door behind them. "How are you this evening?" he asked politely, his hands clasped behind his back as he stood before the door.
Caryn: She turned to look at him. "Contemplative." she admitted honestly. "Sarah did some damage to the property, not that it surprises me overly much. She is a bit on edge lately. Too much going on." She lifted her hand, rubbing her wrist lightly. Her eyes focused on his face, fingers tracing the wrist idly. "So.."
Elijah: "I have heard as much... she sent me a message to be good to you," he said, gesturing with his hand. "I had no intention otherwise, but it is good to know she is looking out for you." He noted her idle movements and his eyes narrowed marginally. "Are you alright?"
Caryn: "She's my cousin." She snorted a little bit. "Protective and my clan is the reason she can be a witch again. Gathering the power of the Smoke clan, we did what one had done and died, pooling our strength to turn her back." She dropped her hand, nodding briefly. "Yes, I'm fine."
Elijah: "Your world is very... interesting," he said, moving from the door to stand before her. "I am not convinced," he referred to her wrist, picking it up gingerly.
Caryn: He'd see nothing, no scars or anything of the kind. More..a memory. "When I was young, I broke my wrist. Sometimes, it still bothers me." Her voice was quiet. "Not often, but sometimes."
Elijah: He frowned, his brow creasing. "A phantom ache? Or more a mental one?" he inquired, gently tracing her wrist with his fingertips.
Caryn: "Mental, more like. It makes me remember that even with all of our powers, we're no where near invincible. And.." She smiled a little bit. "..despite the world we live in and who we're descended from, we are not immortal."
Elijah: Elijah nodded. "That's a wise lesson to remember. No one is all-powerful. It is good to remember, but don't let it rule your life," he said, lifting her wrist and placing a gentle kiss on it.
Caryn: A faint blush crossed her cheeks, her eyes dropping away. "It doesn't. Just that I know my limitations and what I can and can't do." she admitted softly.
Elijah: He gently gripped her chin, pulling it up so their eyes locked. "Don't worry about that. You're safe, that's all that matters," he said with a small smile.
Caryn: She smiled a little, her eyes on his and scanned them slowly. "So what brings you by tonight, Elijah? I mean, besides the obvious when it comes to Sarah threatening you..since I know that's what she did as well as leaving a message for you."
Elijah: He chuckled. "She may have, but I don't take offense. Usually I would, but she's just trying to protect you," he said, gently taking her hand and pulling her to the bed. "I wanted to talk to you, that's all."
Caryn: "Sarah is.." She hesitated. "Sarah has been through a lot." She sat down, her legs tucking up underneath her. "It's why I worry about her, when it comes to Damon. Vampire blood..it's deadly to us. Our magic will try to kill it, destroy it as it works it's way through our body. In the process, it kills us. The Witch Goddess Macht hated vampires more than anything, so she created the lines of witches. There are several different lines but we are...dying out. Some born without powers, some with powers but they're very, very weak." She brushed her hand back through her hair, sighing. "The one who turned Sarah a few years back...he didn't know that." Her eyes locked onto her hands, clenching slightly. "Dominique Vida, Sarah's mother, planned her death. She wanted the killers of her daughter brought to justice. But she failed in that. I am, other than with Sarah, an outcast for the help I once gave Aubrey. So in essence, Sarah and I..we're all each other have had since she became normal again."
Elijah: He listened to her explain with intent, nodding along with her. "I can understand that," he said before looking away. His brow furrowed with thought. "Family used to mean a lot to me, like Sarah does to you. I hope you never have to lose her as I lost mine," he said seriously.
Caryn: "I'd be more worried about her losing me." Her voice was soft, her fingers pressed against her legs. "I don't know what else to tell you about us.." She hesitated. Aubrey? What could she honestly tell him about Aubrey?
Elijah: He gave her a knowing look... he knew where her thoughts had drifted, for his had drifted there as well. "How about you tell me of Aubrey?" he prodded.
Caryn: "Aubrey..it's complicated." Her voice was soft. "He was the reason I became an outcast, but if I hadn't helped him, an innocent girl would have died. I healed her, but when I did? I also used his abilities to do so. He let me borrow his powers, because I didn't have enough on my own. So a bit of his darkness? It lives within me. I am more tainted for Dark than I am the Light, but I saved her. He turned her. And they split a few years? months? weeks? later. I'm not exactly sure, as I haven't probed him too much on it. He is a friend; someone I know I can count on." She hesitated, her eyes going distant. "Dominique freaked, because I saved Jessica...for her to become a vampire. I disobeyed."
Elijah: Elijah was confused about her world, as interesting as it sounded. he didn't begin to comprehend everything she spoke of. Even a 900+ year-old Original vampire had his limitations on knowledge. "You were persecuted for saving a life?" he asked at last.
Caryn: "In a way?" She replied. "I became an outcast. I was...no longer spoken to unless I was needed. My abilities are strictly healing. So, when the hunters needed patching up.." her voice held dry amusement at the last bit. "..which they often did, my mother and I were called upon."
Elijah: Anger sparked in his eyes for her. He felt the monster within him clawing for blood. "How dare they use you!" he spat, standing abruptly. He rarely became angry or lost control, but the thought of her being used was just too much for him to take.
Caryn: "The Smoke clan long ago refused to take up arms, Elijah. Healing was what we chose to do, what we chose to become. I? I followed instincts. After all, healing someone is in my nature. Jessica needed help, but as far as Dominique was concerned, she was vampire bait."
Elijah: "I don't care, Caryn. They used you, then cast you aside. You were nothing more than a pawn in their schemes," he said, his eyes slowly returning to normal. He composed himself and sat back down beside her. "I am glad you are here now," he said finally.
Caryn: "That is the way of life." She replied softly. "It is the way things are. All people use others."
Elijah: "Caryn," he said, his hand cupping her cheek gently, "not all people. I think you have been around the wrong ones." He gave her a smile that actually reached his eyes, his thumb gently tracing her cheekbone. "I would never use you."
Caryn: "Never say never, Elijah." She tilted her face into his hand, her eyes closing. He made her heart do a funny kind of loop, made her want..so many things. She shifted a little bit, shy but..she leaned forward to gently touch her lips to his cheek. It was a start, if nothing else. "I believe you, though."
Elijah: He smiled at her chaste kiss and, unable to stop himself, leaned forward and placed his lips on hers. The kiss was light and gentle at first, then he parted them with his tongue to give her a fuller and more passionate kiss.
Caryn: A little surprised? Yes. She was. She slid her hand up to wrap an arm about his neck, kissing him easily as her tongue slid against his. Elijah Mikalson, a conundrum but someone who was becoming swiftly important to her.
Elijah: Elijah took her compliance as an invitation and wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her closer to him so their upper bodies were flush. He kissed her deeply, revelling in the feel of her soft body in his arms.
Caryn: Her arms wrapped about him, her fingers moving against his back lightly. This was going a little fast, but she could..she'd stop it before it went too far. At least, too far in another sense. She broke the kiss, resting her forehead against his with a smile.
Elijah: He smiled back, his chest rising and falling with breaths he didn't have to take. "I apologize. I have wanted to do that since the moment I met you," he confessed, one hand idly dancing along her arm.
Caryn: "It's all right. I'm just...trying to take it a little slow. I don't want to move too fast." She smiled a little more. "I don't want to ruin this, Elijah.."
Elijah: He pulled away from her slightly and gave her an inquisitive frown. "I don't think you could ruin anything, Caryn. I fear that I would be the one to destroy anything we share," he said with a sigh.
Caryn: "I hate to tell you, Elijah.." A grin crossed her lips as he told her that, her eyes sparkling. "I'll stay with you; doesn't matter what anyone in your family or anyone else thinks, I'll stay. I promise."
Elijah: "What if I am not who you think?" he asked, really worried now about his past and how it would affect her. What she would think of him. She was so good and pure, he was frightened she would spurn him.
Caryn: "Not everyone is how they appear." She smiled a bit, letting the grin fade away. Her fingers touched his cheek. "I can be pretty snippy, for lack of a better word. Everyone has a past, but it's not our past that defines us, it's the future that we choose."
Elijah: "You are far more intelligent than I," he said with a half-smile. "Your wisdom is quite becoming, beautiful Caryn." His hand moved to rest atop hers on his cheek, his head tilting into her touch. His eyes drifted shut as he soaked it up.
Caryn: "So your future has two branches, Elijah. I'll walk with you, if you walk with me." She replied, her eyes scanning his face as she leaned into kiss him again. "And we'll worry about the rest as it comes."
Elijah: "See, so wise," he murmured before meeting her in a kiss. He didn't move closer, or pull her to him. He wanted her to control the situation... he didn't want to make her feel like he was pressuring her into anything.
Caryn: She moved closer to him, her other hand wrapping her fingers about his and tightening. She'd keep him safe; if nothing else, she was sure she could do that at least. She drew back again. "Tell me though, honestly, how do you feel about me feeding Aubrey? I need to know, Elijah."
Elijah: He sighed, turning his head away from her. "I honestly don't know. I am not comfortable with it," he said, his eyes shifting back to her momentarily before moving away, "But I will try to trust you. It's not easy for me... but I'll try."
Caryn: "I can make sure you're there each time, if you want. And if you're still uneasy about it, then he can find someone else to feed on. All right?" She lifted her hand to turn his head back towards her, a faint smile on her lips.
Elijah: He nodded. "I won't control you... I won't even pretend to. You are a grown woman. But if you ever are uncomfortable or anything... then I may step in," he warned.
Caryn: "That is fine." She promised, her eyes locking on his face. "I will always be fine. Some days I'll appear more tired than others, but beyond that? It won't do much to me."
Elijah: He nodded. "If it is as you say, then I will trust you. Please do not let me down," he asked, his eyes filling with the pain of a million betrayals.
Caryn: "I won't. I promise." She kissed his cheek. "So, are we allowed to cuddle or have we not reached this point?"
Elijah: He laughed. "Yes, I do believe I would like that very much," he said, pulling her into his arms. He laid back on the bed, resting her head on his chest
Caryn: She smiled a bit, shifting a little and held onto him. Her fingers tracing idle circles against his arm. She could get used to this, she really could. Someone to care for, someone who cared for her, someone who wasn't her cousin. "So how badly did Sarah threaten you?"
Elijah: He chuckled, loving the feel of her in his arms. "Let's just say I don't plan on upsetting her anytime soon," he said, his hand idly stroking her hair.
Caryn: She snorted, her fingers moving against his arm againand again. "Sarah is..different. Special. She's not a vampire, but she still retains some of the qualities as her time as one. We couldn't erase all of it. She's wicked fast, her barriers against others protruding into her mind or tricking her mind are even stronger, and..she's bitchier. Her powers are more noticable, especially when she can feel vampires.."
Elijah: "I see. So, you can both tell when someone is a vampire. Like me?" he asked, wondering how deeply the cousins could feel these things.
Caryn: "Yes. It's on an instinctual level. To me, it doesn't bother me at all. But with Sarah? It's sandpaper on her senses. Scraping, always scraping and scratching. She can turn it off, but it hurts her when she turns it back on."
Elijah: "So, she is ok with being around Damon Salvatore all the time?" he asked curiously, tilting his head so he could get a better look at her face.
Caryn: "One vampire doesn't bother her. It's when there is a lot around here, when she can feel them constantly. And she can turn off the pain, just sense them. She can sense vampires, like me. I can sense them, but they don't harm me."
Elijah: "I see," he said, smiling, "I am glad it doesn't hurt you, to be around me. Can you sense that I am different from other vampires?"
Caryn: "I can't. She could. I never developed that part of my abilities, none of us Smoke witches do. Because we are healers, not hunters." She smiled a little more, her head lifting so she could look into his eyes. "Vampires to me are more like..a nudge. A feeling in the back of my mind."
Elijah: "I see. So Sarah can tell that I am different from, say, Damon?" he inquired.
Caryn: "Yes. Her abilities are stronger, more..." She shrugged a bit helplessly. "..in tune with her hunting abilities."
Elijah: "Has she said anything to you about the differences between us?" he asked, truly curious.
Caryn: "She hasn't been face to face with you, so no. She can't say anything until she actually sees you face to face." She shifted a bit, her eyes sparkling with mischief as her fingers tickle up his side. "So..enough on that..are you ticklish?"
Elijah: He smirked. "I honestly don't know... It has been a long time since I have been tickled," he stated, his eyes dancing with amusement.
Caryn: "Well, I'm about to find out." She shifted and sat on his legs, her hands tickling him up his sides. Why yes, she was definitely going to try to tickle him. For fun. To smile, laugh, and so much more.
Elijah: He squirmed laughing hard, his eyes filling with tears. When he had had enough, he flipped her onto her back and returned the favor, his fingers dancing gracefully up her ribcage.
Caryn: "Knew you were ticklisssssh.." The last part drug out as she tried to hold back the laughter, before letting it out.
Elijah: He laughed along with her, then finally stopped so they could relax a little. His hands rested lightly on her stomach as his eyes gazed down into hers lovingly.
Caryn: "I could fall for you, Elijah." And it wasn't like she hadn't already started, her hand resting on top of his on her stomach. She'd never have children, not unless she borrowed someone else's boyfriend or husband, but...she could live with that. "And that's all right with me."
Elijah: He smiled down at her, loving the way his face ached from the sensation. He hadn't smiled this much in a long time. Perhaps ever. "It's alright with me, too, Caryn. I think I may already be falling for you," he said softly, seriously, his thumbs gently stroking the fabric of her shirt
Caryn: "And I've already started to fall for you. I want to be with you." She shifted enough to sit up, kissing him her arm looping around his neck as she did so. "I love the way you smile."
Elijah: He gave her a half-smile in response. "I love everything about you," he replied, giving her a quick kiss on the lips. "What do you mean... be with me?" He was so hopelessly clueless... he had been staked and in a coffin for 900 years, after all.
Caryn: She grinned a little bit, he was so..naive in so many ways. "For as many years as life grants us, would you like to be my partner?"
Elijah: His eyes widened at shy, sensitive Caryn's question. So bold! But his heart skipped a beat and he knew that his answer would always be, "Yes, of course." He pulled her down on the bed, giving her a long, deep kiss.
Caryn: She kissed him back, her arms wrapped around him and she held onto him. "But you have to understand..I'm going to grow old, Elijah. Where as you don't...eventually my skin will sag, my hair will grey.."
Elijah: "I won't care about any of that, Caryn. You are more to me that flesh and bones, than hair and beauty," he said simply. "Your heart and soul call to me... they are what I crave."
Caryn: "Then I'll be with you for as long as life grants me, Elijah. For as long as I can walk with you." Her eyes scanned his, fingers touching his cheek. "I want to stay with you."
Elijah: "I want you to stay with me. I wish you could. Perhaps... perhaps we will not part when the time comes," he said, his hand stroking her hair gently.
Caryn: She smiled a little bit, her fingers touching his cheek lovingly. "We will see what happens. I promise."
Elijah: He nodded, his hand moving to rest against hers on his face. "Good. Would it be ok with you if I stay here for the night? I won't do anything without your permission... I just wish to be close to you," he said softly.
Caryn: "You can stay with me." She replied, her eyes falling shut momentarily and then opened them once more. "I promise you."
Elijah: He nodded, resting back against the pillows on her bed. "Thank you... I finally feel again. You have given me the greatest gift," he said, pulling her down to lie against his chest, his fingers twirling bits of her hair around and around.
Caryn: She smiled, her eyes sparkling once she looked up at him. "Well, you're welcome. I think. I'll always be here to make you feel, to make you smile and laugh. And if we have bumps along the way? We'll deal with it."
Elijah: He smiled back, nodding. "I like the way you think, my love. I am glad to have found you," he said lovingly.
Caryn: "Tell me about your family." She replied. "I've spilled all of mine's dirty little secrets."
Elijah: He chuckled a little, then sobered almost instantly. "There are a lot of terrible things in my family's past. In my past. I am not sure you want to know," he said, grimacing with the pain of his memories.
Caryn: Caryn studied his reaction, fingers brushing his cheek. "Tell me when you're ready. Whenever that maybe, my heart." She kissed him, leaning up to brush her lips gently over his.
Elijah: He kissed her back, his head swimming with the depth of his love for her. When he broke the kiss, his eyes searched hers. "I will tell you," he finally said, nodding his head once, firmly. "I hope you do not think any less of me, though."
Caryn: "I never will. There is nothing you can do to make me think less of you, Elijah. I told you before: your past doesn't define you, it's the choices you make for the future. I make a decisive decision everyday to walk in the light. I have to. Because I have darkness swirling in me from using Aubrey's vampire abilities, I am tainted."
Elijah: He nodded, cupping her cheek. "Alright. I suppose I should tell you everything. I told you before that I am a vampire... or rather, you knew. But did I tell you how I came to be one?" he asked.
Caryn: "No, you never did." She shifted a little bit, her fingers brushing through his hair. She tilted her face into his hands, smiling again.
Elijah: "My mother was a witch. There were werewolves threatening to kill all in our village. She... she made my family the first Vampires. The Originals, as we are called by all of the vampires we sired, and on down," he said, his eyes drifting in and out of focus as he remembered the past. "It was not something we could choose, but it kept us alive. There were... consequences, though," he said, meeting her eyes once more.
Caryn: "Those consequences?" She said, her voice soft and gentle. She looked into his eyes, her hand pressed against his face as he did so. Her fingers pushed through his hair. "Can you tell me what they were, Elijah?"
Elijah: "First, drinking blood. The bloodlust was so hard in the beginning. But, we were a family... that was enough. But Klaus, my brother... he wasn't like us. Come to find out, he was a hybrid of a werewolf and a vampire. He was so unpredictable and dangerous. When he killed our mother," he said, swallowing, "our father vowed to kill us all."
Caryn: She looked at him, shifting enough to sit up and crossed her legs beneath her. "So from there, he tried to kill you." Her voice was soft, her gaze scanning his face. "He wanted you dead, because of him.." Her hand clenched against his stomach, her eyes swirling. Magic. But none that she could use in violence. "..I'd kill him."
Elijah: Elijah sat up with her. "Don't... it's ok Caryn. My father is dead," he said simply, shrugging. "My brother, though... he kept me staked and in a coffin for 900 years... the only way to kill us, we destroyed. But we can be incapacitated... and he did that to me and the rest of our siblings," he said.
Caryn: Taking a deep breath, she released it once more. "I'm sorry. I'm not usually...it bothers me." Her hand rested against her leg, her fingers brushing over his skin once more. "As for your brother..."
Elijah: He nodded. "I appreciate your concern, but Klaus is no longer a threat to me. He has only ever wanted for our family to be reunited. We basically are, here, and I think... more than anything else... now he is distracted. His heart has finally found its equal," he said with an amused smirk.
Caryn: Her eyebrow shot up and she looked at him. "Oh? And who is that?" She looked a bit amused, her eyes sparkling. "I suppose that I can be happy that you and I are together. And I can't regret what your mother did to you, because it brought you to me. You'd have died way before I was born if not for that."
Elijah: He nodded. "My mother was just trying to help. But... she was misguided. She came back to kill us," he admitted, looking away from her. It seemed many people wanted them to die.
Caryn: Her eyes narrowed a little bit. The shame that came from him because of that, the pain of it. Her hands tightened on his and she held onto them, her fingers tensing on them. "I am happy you are here.."
Elijah: "I am happy to be here," he said softly, holding her hands tight. "Lie with me."
Caryn: She laid down with him, her head resting against his chest as they curled up together. This is all that she could want. She let her eyes closed and she started to drift off, just like that.
