Adam listened, mulling over what Cassie was telling him. It seemed like such a foreign idea to him. The idea that the connection the two of them had was a curse and could actually effect the Circle in a negative way, let alone make one of the Circle ill. It sounded like something dark magic would be capable of but the things he felt for Cassie... they weren't remotely dark or unpleasant. Never once had he ever wanted to do something to harm her or cause her pain in any way. Not even when she had lost control that one afternoon and started to choke him. Adam knew that was an accident, that she hadn't meant to.
By the time their next kiss broke Adam was feeling warmer, but it had nothing to do with his magic. He lifted a hand to brush Cassie's hair back from her face, his focus entirely on her. "Can I stay the night? I want to make sure you're safe." And admittedly, he felt a little guilty for not having spent more time with her since she arrived at the mansion. They were stronger together, not simply the Circle but the two of them as well. And if Blackwell had put ideas in Cassie's head that their love was some sort of curse than in Adam's mind the only way to firmly prove it wrong was for them to stay together and see that nothing bad happened because of it.
