Cassie swallowed. He warm hands rubbed against her arms and her skin erupted in goosebumps and she shivered, unaware she had been cold at all until he touched her. I would do anything to protect you. The words were like a knife, blade twisting in her heart, and she didn't understand. He wasn't supposed to say things like that anymore. Adam wasn't supposed to love her, but yet, his eyes told a different story. His actions and the way he looked at her as if solely focused on herself, as if nothing else mattered in the world, but the two of them, told her differently.
How could it be? The spell worked. He looked at her so coldly last time. So indifferent to her own emotions bleeding from her eyes, but not now. Now, he looked at her in the same way as before the spell. He looked at her with love and admiration and devotion. Was she dreaming? No. She would have woken up by now. She always did before he could touch her.
It was her moment of weakness; she stepped forward and closed the gap between their bodies. Her arms wrapped around him and she rested her head upon his shoulder. Cassie knew she should investigate, figure out how the spell was null and void here, but she couldn't bring herself to. It was selfish, but she didn't want to lose him or what they shared again.
"I know. I would do anything to protect you, too," she replied softly into his neck. "I promise." His magic wrapped around her like a warm, fuzzy and familiar blanket. Cassie felt her own white magic do the same, reaching out and mixing with his in the perfect bond. But there was something else too, something she had never felt before from Adam...
Her dark magic was prickling, but she felt nothing negative right now for the teenager in front of her. So, how?
