Gabe would never take from anyone against their will, blood or anything else. His short stay on the Jolly Roger (thankfully that particular ship had burned a while ago), and being on the other end of something like that, had only solidified that belief. If Asa didn't want to be fed on, he wouldn't. And he would make sure no one else would, either.
He nodded with a small smile. "I did. I agreed to it. I knew it would make me stronger, better suited to protect everyone." Because even as a human, he had been all about protecting his family. Every time they lost someone, for whatever reason, he blamed himself for it. No matter how fucked up that was.
"I left home long before I came here." he told Asa quietly. "I never knew my parents, I was adopted, but when they had a kid of their own..." he shrugged. He'd only been six or so, but his childhood had been effectively over by then. "It's been six years now? Maybe more. I lost track of time eventually. It doesn't really matter how long I've been here, though. This is my home, my family now. One that actually wants me."
