The Outer Rim, with all its shady dealings and its reputation as the place for dangerous criminals to run to seemed as safe a place as any for them to meet. The First Order didn't control the entire galaxy yet, and the Outer Rim was always the last to come to heel for any government historically speaking. Finn felt a bit safer knowing that most First Order members wouldn't recognize him anyway - after all, he spent most of his life with his face hidden away in Stormtrooper armor. He didn't think too many people had seen Rey's face at this point either. They were probably some of the safest members of the Resistance if only because they were so new. They ended up joining at the same time, thrust into this together. He hadn't known her very long, but even in the brief time since they'd met, Rey was one of the people Finn knew best. Even Slip hadn't been someone he knew very well - and even Slip had chosen to treat him as an outsider toward the end. All his life, Finn believed something was wrong with him. He hadn't been like the rest of the troopers - even though he bested them at every turn in war games and simulations. There had been something off. For years he thought that the something was him. And maybe, to an extent, it had been him. He had seen the First Order for what it was.
Fleeing from the First Order with Poe gave him an unprecedented rush and a feeling a freedom he'd never known. But it also filled him with terror. So as he loitered around waiting for Rey, Finn indulged the thought that this might have been a place he could've ended up if he hadn't stuck around when the First Order showed up and took Rey. But then, the Starkiller Base wouldn't have been destroyed. The Resistance would be dead. And sooner or later, even a place like this wouldn't be a good enough hiding place for him. And if the Resistance had died, Rey could've died along with him - and there was nothing in the world he wouldn't do to prevent that.
No one had ever looked at him the way she did. She was the first person to ever talk to him like he was worth while. It was an incredible realization - to know that someone genuinely cared for you. He had been distraught when he awoke to find her gone. He feared the worst until Threepio led him to General Organa, who explained everything to him. From that moment on, Finn had pushed to get better. Hounding after more bacta treatments and doing everything he could to speed up the healing process. The doctors were impressed with his recovery, but he didn't care. He just wanted to get out there and find her. He hadn't ever had friends before - Rey and Poe Dameron were now the only ones he'd ever had.
Finn folded his arms across his chest as he waited. His blaster sat comfortingly on his hip as he leaned against his ship. He was anxious to see Rey again - not only because he missed his friend, but because he was incredibly curious as to just what it was like to meet Luke Skywalker.
