Selene nodded as she topped off her glass again. "Large explosions tend to disagree with me. I usually try to avoid the epicenter. Last one ended I ended up waking in a... most unpleasant place." She reflected for a moment as she took a few swallows of her drink. "We do our part to cut down on the activities of some of the more antisocial types out there. Banshee is a gunship. Just acquired a pair of starfighters to bolster our forces. Hunting pirates usually pays fairly well, too. Some, like slavers, I hunt for free. Don't care for them at all. And rumor has it there might be some First Order involvement out on the fringe. Going after colony world shipments, maybe some of the colony worlds themselves. Can't say I care much for the sort that consider entire worlds full of civilians acceptable collateral damage. They also have some nice toys if we can manage to take them away from them. Somebody needs to, at any rate, and there doesn't seem to be anybody else willing to try."
"Apex predator. Always looking for, listening for, all the little things in speach, movement, involuntary actions, even scent. There is still a little bit of Earth about you, things that will disappear in a few months."
She laughed softly; there was a bit of wistfulness underneath the humor. "Old soldier? John, I've been a soldier for almost six and a half centuries. I used to be as human as you. More so, probably, as the naive nineteen-year-old who put aside her humanity to take part in the war her people had been involved in for a thousand years before she was born. And I was born on Earth, probably not your Earth, since you didn't recognize what I am from my description. Born June first, 1383, in Hungary. I haven't said much of what I am to anyone since I came here 28 plus years ago, but it looks like this struggle against what this galaxy might become will go on for a long while. I believe it will take time to build a fleet, to become a power capable of taking a part in that struggle. I have that luxury of time. I also believe it has come time to offer that luxury to others who are willing to take a part in that struggle. I can't do anything about the years you have lost, but there is a way to make sure you lose no more. My kind live until they choose to die or are killed.
"You spoke the truth as you saw it when you brought up a worthy cause, and good people at your side. I can tell. I'm looking for some of those good people. "
