Buffy gave him a flippant shrug. "Well, Arthur needs to be arrested by the fashion police, stat." She quirked her head to the side and despite having the crossbow trained on him, she seemed almost casual about this whole thing. Being able to be on her guard while looking as if she might turn around and just go shopping in a blink of an eye was as natural as breathing for her. It also helped to mask just how much she hated this. She genuinely liked Alucard and had hoped she'd never really have to fight him. But the predator in her, oh she could feel that Slayer in her pacing and hungry for this. That part of her wanted to leap into the fray, fangs bared and drawing first blood, but Buffy knew that wouldn't end well for her. So she reached out with her ever growing mental abilities, to feel just how far Alucard had gone and to see if there was anything she could do. Not that she knew how to fix things, but she'd try if possible.
"I shouldn't do a lot of things, but the thing about me is that I have that whole free will thing. Hasn't exactly failed me yet." As she did so, she tried to keep him distracted by being, well, Buffy. "Besides, if I didn't come, how long would it be until you snagged some poor sucker who didn't know what hit them? It wouldn't be right." She wasn't exactly afraid of him knowing she was trying to pry, but she needed to get a raw feel of his state to know her next move. "Looks like I owe you a big fat 'I told you so'."
