"I wouldn't call the lack of contact incompetence. I'd call it too few people with too much on their shoulders, most of them having to operate with an abundance of caution. There's only so much time they can spare to feel out who might be a friend." Cloud was accustomed to going into battle underfunded and undersupplied. Shinra never did invest much in their regular infantry. Grunts were there to serve as canon fodder, not as genuine ground support. It was a minor miracle that someone as small and unassuming as Cloud had been back them had survived his military career.
"I'll pass your information along," he promised, a raised eyebrow the only hint that he was surprised at the extensive resume. Cloud tamped down his automatic unease at some of the qualifications Selene shared with him, though he couldn't quite do away with the crawling feeling when she brought up the blood. His personal trauma aside, she did have a point. The abilities she described could be useful.
"For what it's worth, I'm sorry that I can't give you a secret password and point you toward a specific door." He offered a wry smile. "You're really going to offer to check on their grandchildren's grandchildren?"
