Buffy & Selene
Selene shrugged. "I've used my extended life to see new things, learn new skills. I have seen my kind stuck in the era they were born into, refusing to believe that new times offered worthwhile new things to see and do. I have also seen them descend into a form of madness. I suppose they would look upon my fascination with the new and different as my own sort of madness. It was one of the things I spoke about with my cousin. He seems to look at how things stay the same; I look for what is different."
"We all have the potential to be monsters, you, even normal mortals. Most have the ability to rise above that if they try. Just remember that you will age, she will not. One day she will need to move on. I have seen it happen before."
"Pirate hunting is usually the best paying of all the ways we earn funds. Freight lines, insurance companies, sometimes an entire planetary government, all will post bounties to encourage ships like mine to go after raiders. Most freighters aren't armed, so it doesn't take much more than an armed pirate freighter to take them down. Worse is the amount of Republic and ImpMil hardware that ended up on the market after the war when the Republic Senate put through their great disarmament plan. Sometimes it takes a gunship like Banshee for the hunt. If their ship isn't too badly shot up, we sell it, or scrap it if nothing else. And... whatever they have in their hold. Last capture had a hold full of hijacked gemstones. the insurance settlement was... rather nice.
"If you want to learn some of that 'big space stuff,'" Selene smiled, "Sign on with a ship like mine and work your way up. Or try the Republic military. They are going to be scrambling for ships and crew after losing a large portion of the fleet to the First Order. Promotion should be rapid. Not all the monsters out there haunt the night; some, their darkness is inside. They have already ended one world. Of course if you sign up with me, training is free, and in a few years you'd be ready for your own command. One of the reasons we came to Naboo was for my First Officer, Peter, to pick out a fighter of his own we can piggyback on Banshee. Business stays good, not too much longer we'll be looking for a gunship for him and starting to build a fleet."
