Who: Selene and Alucard What: A meeting Where: A nameless space station When: During the Banshee's travels Rating: PG for a couple of old vampires - will edit if necessary
The way these things sometimes worked out, they had agreed to meet at a midpoint station. Selene was outbound again, and Alucard was heading back to Naboo. Banshee was carrying a high-value cargo that needed to be dropped off, so Selene even had a legitimate reason to be there, in case anyone noticed. The dock was busy enough to cover a multitude of comings and goings as ships came in, unloaded, loaded, and left.
She got a receipt on her 'pad from the security droid supervising their offload and addressed her crew over her comlink. "I am off to check on the status of our next load and destination. We will not lift for at least 24 hours if you want to explore a little. Enjoy, try to stay out of trouble if you can. Bail money, damages, and fines come out of your pay."
Making her way to a restaurant not far from the docking bay - Selene had learned English - what they called Basic here - in the 1580s in England, and refined her ability with the language in the 1960s; she had to remind herself not to refer to it as a pub - she couldn't help but muse a bit on Alucard - Dracula - Son of the Dragon. Same name, some of the same history, apparently, as her distant cousin on earth. Even the same year of birth. He said he'd made himself a vampire, whatever that might mean, and hadn't been turned. And he seemed - maybe bemused was the right word - by the fact that she had a daughter. Odds seemed good he was nothing like a vampire of the Corvinus line, as she had been before she was given the blood of Alexander Corvinus, the First Immortal of her line, and evolved into what she was now.
Over the years she'd met a few of the walking dead sort of vampire that she hadn't had to terminate for behaving as blood-crazed fools. They had seemed amazed that she had a heartbeat, albeit slow, and needed to breathe occasionally. And the small silver cross she'd taken to wearing on a silver chain around her neck, usually next to her skin under her Death Dealer uniform? That completely boggled most of them. She had been raised Catholic as a young girl in Hungary, drifted away from her religion, and then drifted back in the last century or so of her life. But Corvinus vampires never had that whole cross/hallowed ground problem that the dead vampires had told her of. Just another piece of the puzzle. Then again, this universe didn't seem that big on the whole religion thing, although what they called the Force seemed to almost play a similar part. Light side, dark side, stuck the universe together. Sounded like duct tape to her.
Selene discretely gave the head waiter enough of a tip to get a table in the rear of the place, in a corner where she and Alucard could both sit with their backs to a wall, not too far from the door to the kitchen and an emergency exit. A girl needed to keep her options open. She ordered a fairly decent bottle of wine and two glasses, and sat perusing the menu as she waited for the vampire to arrive.
