"Fear of the inexplicable usually leads to violence," River said, straightening before she sat down on the opposite end of the bench. "We think we're the apex of the food chain, so we hate anything that might prove us wrong."
She contemplated the box for another moment. It was just a shell now, any content of value to a normal being was gone. It almost seemed to glimmer in the light as Wanda mentioned the Force, but even to River that seemed an impossibility. There was no shielding array, no light source built into the surface. She blinked a few times to make sure her eyes were functioning properly, then shrugged it off as a fluke phenomena of her own perception.
"The nurses whisper about the Force sometimes," she added, letting her legs sway back and forth, skimming just above the paving. "It's not in the databanks. I think somebody erased it."
