Jacen had felt his twin the moment she had arrived. It had been the smallish of pings in the back of his mind so disconnected from the Force was he at the moment, but it was impossible for him to push her out completely unless he were genuinely trying to and he had not been trying to be that cut off because there had been no reason for it. Upon his arrival into this galaxy that was not his own he'd shut down some because he hadn't wanted to attract undue attention, but this was his twin - his heart - the other half of him despite the fact that he felt so far away from her at times - and he could not lose that completely. And so he went in search of her, guided mostly by that sense of his sister in the Force, until he found himself standing outside of a housing unit that he was certain belonged to her. For a moment he hesitated, uncertain what it meant that she was here. This galaxy was not his galaxy, that was clear. There were similarities - there had been a clone wars, there had been an Empire, and the Empire had been destroyed at Endor. There were broad strokes of what he could uncover that seemed to be similar to his own, but then there were differences. A battle on the planet Jakku, his mother was not Chief of State of this republic, and although he had seen his mother's name, he had seen neither his nor his sister's nor his younger brother's and he didn't know what that meant. He had been about to go off into the galaxy to uncover answers to questions about the Force and instead he had ended up here. He didn't know what said about being here right now, but for the moment he could focus on the fact that unlike the journey he had been about to undertake, he was apparently not taking this one alone. He raised his hand and knocked, dropping a few of those walls around his Force sense to say hello to Jaina there as well and he waited. She knew he was here, Jaina had felt him and somehow that made the processing and all the questions a little easier to take. Clearly she was on Naboo, she’d been here before but this was not the place she remembered. There was talk of something called the First Order, a Resistance, things that sounded vaguely like the stories she’d heard of the Rebellion yet no one seemed to blink an eye at her name. It was all very confusing but hopefully between the two of them, they could figure it out. They’d both changed a lot over the past few years, the war had taken a lot out of their whole family and losing Anakin had been the worst of it. Jaina missed him every day and she knew that even if he didn’t say it, that Jacen did too. There were times when she felt that her twin was growing away from her and that scared her, he’d always been there, in her head, knowing what she was going to say or do before she did sometimes and it was the same wa for her. They were still bonded, nothing could change that but she missed the way things were before the war. When he arrived at her door, she was already throwing it open and breathing a sigh of relief when she saw him. “Jacen,” she said. “thank the Force. What the kriff is this place. I know it’s Naboo but it’s not Naboo either. Those people on the space station looked at me like I’d just told them I was an ewok when I gave them my name.” Jacen could count on Jaina to be, well, Jaina, and there was a relief in seeing his twin's face in front of him. They'd been separated for too long in this war. After Anakin's death, at times Jacen had wondered if they would ever find the closeness that they had once shared. She was the other half of him, but he knew there were things he'd had to do that she wouldn't understand… part of him had become half-convinced that even outside the war this was the natural outcome of growing up and growing in different directions. That even minus Anakin's death, minus the war, there would have been less familiarity as they grew older. He told himself this but he had no idea how much of it was true. Perhaps everything he told himself was a lie as well. Little lies, tiny ones that you turned into truth so that you could cross the chasm and keep living your life. Right now though, his face broke into a grin and he stepped forward to embrace her. It had been only a matter of days since he'd left for had been intended to be five years of exploration and learning. But there was something about a universe where the name Jacen Solo got no attention and your parents names were listed in the holonet but without your own attached to them - something about space where you didn't exist that made something familiar all the more welcome. His arms wrapped around her and squeezed gently. "You're late," he pulled back, lopsided Solo grin on his lips. "You're late and also I'm really glad you're here." Jaina held on to him for a second, happy to see him, relieved to see something that was familiar because so far nothing felt right. When they pulled apart she rolled her eyes at him. “Yes, I’m late but at least I’m here. You were supposed to be gone too but I can’t get rid of you.” Of course she didn’t mean it. She understood why he felt the need to go but that didn’t mean she hadn’t been sad or that she hadn’t missed him although as it turned out she’d only had to miss him for a few days. “How long have you been here?” she asked, shutting the door behind him and heading into the living area where she took at seat and waved for him to do the same. “and I’m sure you’ve been poking around because I know I would have been. Do you have any idea what this is all about?” Jacen couldn't help the grin at Jaina's jest even as he stuffed his hands in his pockets and stepped into the room. He walked slowly over to the seat she'd motioned to and sat down thoughtfully. He had been looking and he had been asking some questions, and there was everything the girl, Rey, had mentioned, and he still was trying to put the pieces together. He sat down on the edge of the seat and leaned forward, his elbows on his knees as he looked at his sister. "A few days, basically, not that long. Long enough to find the library and do some searches," he couldn't help but shrug. Jaina knew him too well because of course that was exactly what he'd done. "As best as I can tell we're in our galaxy, but it's not our galaxy. There an Empire, mom was a leader of the Rebel Alliance, she's mentioned also as someone who worked to set up the Republic - but she wasn't Chief of State, and there's no mention of any of us. The history of the Clone Wars, the history of the Rebel Alliance, much of it seems to be very similar, but every once in awhile I'd run into something that was… off. There don't seem to be any Jedi here, but people are familiar with Luke's name." He frowned slightly. He'd gone to look for answers and he was getting more questions than he'd bargained for. "I spoke with a girl on the holonet who seemed to be at least familiar with Luke. She said that he had a student that had turned against him, destroyed the Jedi, that Luke was the last one. And that it might not be smart to say that I was a Jedi publicly. Which… it's a bit late for that, but I guess word for the wise for you. That is about as much as I know." Jaina stared at him, not quite sure how to react to what he was saying. She’d known that there could be alternate universes although she’d never been in one. This one though, their mother wasn’t Chief of State, they apparently didn’t exist and the Jedi were gone? “That’s seriously kriffed up,” she finally said. “and I haven’t mentioned being a Jedi and it sounds like it’s good I didn’t. Uncle Luke is here though. I saw a post from him on the holo network but he looks older than I remember. But he didn’t have a student that destroyed the Jedi. Well there was Kyp but he was mostly just after one planet and being an ass...anyway, this is just plain weird.” She looked out the window, seeing the buildings of the city but not feeling a part of it. This had been their grandmother’s home world and Jaina had visited it but it didn’t feel the same. “Do you feel it too, Jacen?” she asked and then turned to look at him. “This is Naboo, we’ve been here but it doesn’t feel the same. I can’t put my finger on it but it’s off. Something is off.” Jacen's lips twisted up slightly. It was true and it took Jaina to lay it out so obviously and without any pretty language to dance around it. Maybe it wasn't what he would do, but there were times when it was refreshing and so far he couldn't argue with the descriptor 'kriffed up' when it came to this timeline. He didn't know everything about it yet so it was possible that he was missing something important but right now it felt accurate. He leaned back in the seat and considered. "It feels dark," he suggested. "If I had to put a finger on it, it's like a shadow, which considering what our galaxy was like… "The girl I talked to, Rey, she seemed to know some things and it helped. But I think we should likely be on our guard here." That would change basically nothing about how they had been living their lives. Jacen had been living on his guard since Duro and the price on his head that had been leveraged against him. Dark. That was a good word but she’d tried not to think it. The Dark Side, she’d been there, she was sure Jacen had too, they’d both come back but it wasn’t a place she ever wanted to visit again. “Dark, yes. That’s what it feels like. For all the similarities there’s something missing.” Jaina leaned back against the couch cushions. “I talked to her last night. Rey. She asked me if I had another brother and I told her yes but he was dead. Then she asked me his name and she seemed surprised when I told her. It seems that we never existed here from what you’ve told me and judging from the reactions of people but maybe Mom and Dad had another child? Could he have been the student that went bad? It makes sense that Uncle Luke would train him, he trained us, so that at least feels right.” Jacen had specifically left his name off his network post when he'd realized, well, from the reactions of the people checking him in that they didn't really know who he was. Then again, this was the difference between him and Jaina - where she would push outward, he tended to pull inward, and whether one was right or wrong in and of itself - likely not. In this case it had given them a bit more information from this same girl. He stood and walked across the room to find the window and look out for a minute. If that was the case, if their parents were still together in this reality, which it did seem was likely, and they'd had a child - and that child had gone bad? Was it possible? It was possible. Jacen couldn't say he liked the idea though. "I don't think we know enough to say for certain," he said finally, turning back around. "Perhaps we should ask her if she knows our parents -" he stopped and tilted his head slightly to the side. "Well, if she knows Han Solo or Leia Organa. There's nothing to say they're our parents in the same way here, and it seems unlikely they'll recognize us - no one else does. "Which, that's weird to me. Mother being Chief of State for so long - it's odd that she doesn't seem to have been here. It's like looking at a holo and realizing that you recognize the place, but all the people in it are different." “It’s really hard to imagine Mom not being in charge,” Jaina shook her head. “it’s just the way it always was but no, it doesn’t seem that’s the case here. Maybe this girl does know one of them. She didn’t seem to want to give any straight answers though. A lot of our conversation just went around in circles. Then again she might be as confused as we are.” It would certainly confuse her if people she’d never met before started showing up like this. Jaina thought briefly of the young man she’d spoken to last night, Ichigo. He wasn’t even from their universe so there was something going on here. “I talked to someone last night who isn’t even from our world,” she said. “and there appear to be others from what I saw on the holo network. I don’t know what it could be but your description is good. It’s like this is Naboo but at the same time, it’s not. I wonder if any of our grandmother’s family is still here? Although she wouldn’t be our grandmother if we never born. But our mother was born and so was Luke so she existed.” "She may be," Jacen took a step back over to sit down across from his sister. "I think there's just so much we don't know that we're going to have to spend some time trying to figure it out. She seemed willing to talk to me though, so that's something and maybe we'll get some information there. Also, after talking to her I have a bit better idea of what to look at when I go back to the library tomorrow," his lips twitched slightly. "You can come with me if you want." Even though he was reasonably certain that Jaina would far rather spend her energy trying to get them a ship. "Or you could see what we can find down at the shipyards in the category of 'shuttle' that we might be able to afford without selling our souls." “That sounds like a much better plan than hanging out in the library,” she said with a grin. “although I hope you can find something out. If we did find something we could afford though, where would we go? I assume all the same places exist here but do we know that for sure?” It made sense but that didn’t mean it was necessarily true. "Why don't you work on the ship," Jacen suggested. "I'll work on the where to go." It occurred to him as he looked across at her, that it had been a long time that they'd had to work together. Not just as colleagues on the same team, but as partners the way they'd used to have done as kids. The way they'd done at the start with - he shook the thought away without focusing on the brother they'd both lost. Everything had shifted, he'd changed - he'd had to change - and in the mix the two of them had worked together, but not together. Not as partners where they could complement each other. He wasn't certain it would work even now, but when he had no other resources it seemed absurd to not combine forces with his twin. "There are galaxy maps and we can get an idea. Probably find out if some of the same archives are in the places where we expect them to be. If nothing else, then Coruscant might have answers." She’d missed this. Talking with Jacen, planning things with him. It had been hard since Anakin’s death and she knew they both missed him. This might be good for the two of them, having to depend on one another. “That sounds like a good idea. If Naboo is here, then it stands to reason that the other planets and systems we knew would be here too. I mean there’s a chance that they won’t be but it makes sense.” "It's a different galaxy and I'm sure there are more things that are going to pop up as differences," Jacen said quietly. "But so far as I've been able to see a lot of the same systems exist, and so it's not unfamiliar." He looked over at his sister. It had been a long time since it had just been the two of them. It had always been the two of them, but it had been a long time since they'd been two against everything else. Since… the academy, really. And even then there had been others. Tenel Ka, Lowbacca… Jacen offered her a smile. "We'll figure this out. Maybe we'll even find Mom and Dad." “That would be nice,” Jaina said with a small smile. “and hopefully they’ll know who we are. Whatever we find out though, we’ll get through it. We always do.” They’d been through a lot together although lately they’d been apart more than they’d been together but she knew they’d figure this out. “So I guess we should get started, huh?” Yeah. Together. They were twins, two halves of a whole, and they were both here. That was probably a sign of some sort. Jacen nodded his head. "We should get started, and maybe let's start with what our resources currently are, huh? And then we can move on from there." |
