"Some people seem to know," Wanda said quietly. Once she'd been sure she knew everything, or at least enough to know what needed to be done. She missed that, sometimes. Along with so much else.
She took a deep breath, let it out in a rush, and gave Buffy a quavering smile. "You are very kind," Wanda said. Sometimes when she said that sort of thing, it was because kindness made her feel suspicious, but she meant this deeply and truly. "I am grateful."
Her smile lost its quiver as she listened -- with all her senses -- to Buffy's offer. She could feel Buffy's strength, and know that Buffy was telling the truth about what she could take. And yes, she could vaguely sense a deep rift that Buffy tried to keep covered, but she thought that perhaps the reason Buffy could take so much was because she had dealt with ... something terrible. And she remembered what Buffy had said about being dead, and out of respect she didn't look any further than that.
"I have noticed," she said. And although she'd had her doubts about this, though it hadn't gone at all as she'd planned, she thought that she'd chosen well in who to confide in. She still hadn't told the whole story, the reasons for the fight that had ended Pietro's life, their complicity in a plan that could have ended the world, but that didn't seem so important to her now. Perhaps that was the root of her insecurity, but the loss of her brother was the source of her deepest pain, and it eased her heart to think that Buffy knew about Pietro.
"I wish you'd been able to meet him too," she added with a little melancholy sigh. It was a strange feeling to be able to say that to someone.
