To say he was having a complicated few weeks was an understatement. It seemed like only a blink of an eye, a heartbeat, and Finn had somehow managed to live an entirely new life. He went from being a mindless soldier - a killer - to free-thinking and independent. He went from a stormtrooper who was expected and taught to mercilessly kill on command and now he was a member of the Resistance, fighting to destroy the very First Order that raised him. Not only that, but he had helped destroy the Star Killer Base. The whole damn thing! And he used a lightsaber. And helped war hero Han Solo. That last bit still caused a twinge in his chest and the heavy settling of guilt on his shoulders. He should've had a plan. It was selfish to go there with Rey as his only thought. Han had been right - people were counting on him. It was a thought that plagued Finn repeatedly while he recovered.
It was a wonder he was still alive. A miracle - like every other aspect of his life these past few weeks. Finn still couldn't believe he'd taken on Kylo Ren and survived. It was a fact he knew he owed to Rey.... wherever she was. He was still stiff and definitely sore. Finn hadn't seen the scar on his back, but he was certain it had to be impressive in size. The seared scar on his shoulder looked pretty bad ass when he was trying to feel confident about it. At least it wasn't oozing anymore. The bacta did a great job - the scar tissue would only be permanent because Finn couldn't bear to hang around any longer. He had to get back out there. Had to find Rey. He knew he couldn't just show up to wherever Luke Skywalker and crash their Force party, but he had to do something.
He was honored and relieved when the Resistance gave him a ship and a handful of codes and identities he could use as he moved around the galaxy. The last thing Finn needed was the First Order getting wind of him. And while he felt a flash of guilt for not staying behind and helping, Finn needed to get his head on straight and he needed to make sure Rey was out there and okay (even if deep down, he knew she was).
