Eight-Seven could agree with her description of the Resistance. At least, from the things he'd read and the vids he'd watched, that seemed to be true. But hearing the words come from someone else, someone who wasn't tied to his training, made it seem all the more true. This was a private conversation, so surely she wasn't just spitting propaganda at him. He always knew the Resistance to be foolish and the Republic to be corrupt but it was nice for those thoughts to be validated from an outside source.
His eyebrows lifted at her next statement, however. Eight-Seven immediately looked around before looking back to her, eyes narrowed warily. Was that a trick question? A trap meant to catch him in his uncertainties? How could she know that he questioned his existence? He never spoke of it to anyone and he even tried to avoid thinking it if at all possible.
"The First Order is the only option," he finally decided on saying. "The Republic is greedy and corrupt, the Resistance foolhardy and dangerous," he pointed out in his own defense. "The First Order wishes to snuff out such depravity." Even as he spoke the words, Eight-Seven thought they felt hollow and he worried it would come back to haunt him. "The First Order is all I've ever known," he added, tone quieter than before. Didn't she know talk like that would get them killed? Especially him; he was just a stormtrooper. He'd been reprimanded for helping a fellow trooper out, so what would Phasma say if she knew he'd participated in a traitorous conversation?
