Wanda moved to stand nearer to the Togruta, the more talkative one, as she said what she had to say, hoping that her presence would make her feel like she had some support. She watched the vampire, still alert and ready for anything. Exasperation, Wanda thought, was not a good sign. Found in a compromising situation, blustering excuses, offended anger...
She reminded Wanda of someone she had seen...a minor official, a town bureaucrat somewhere, perhaps? Used to petty power, unable to believe that the government had been replaced and he was being called to account? She couldn't remember the town, or the exact situation, or how many soldiers had been involved, or why it was being done in front of the whole town...but she didn't need to. She returned her attention to the vampire, and the current situation.
'Usually asked' was better than never asking, but there was room for a lot of abuse there too. Even if what Sarysi said was the absolute truth, Wanda would not trust this vampire. She might be better than the ones that did nothing but kill, but... Wanda glanced toward Buffy, but didn't see an answering wariness. Was she overreacting?
But perhaps the only accusation that mattered was killing indiscriminately? If this afternoon was anything to go by, a Slayer must have much more on her mind than...minor offenses?
Wanda reminded herself, a little angry at herself for getting drawn in, that she was not in the business of judging others, however easy it was to fall into that pattern. Resentment, judgment, conflict, war...
If your life is on the line, you protect yourself. To that, Wanda found herself nodding along in spite of herself. It seemed that the three of them -- herself, the vampire, and Buffy, the slayer -- were used to looking out for themselves, and taking things into their own hands.
And even the Togruta (and presumably her companion who didn't speak) shared the assumption that what happened would be decided in this room. No going to the authorities. Wanda was surprised at the solution Buffy agreed to, though.
"Are you sure?" Wanda asked. "Keeping prisoners is a lot to take on, and you're injured."
It was a solution she never would have imagined, but then, her enemies had never been isolated and easily imprisoned.
"How will you decide? What more can you find out from imprisoning her? Will you...go to Naboo?" That was the only way Wanda could imagine of finding out more. If the vampire had a reputation, if there was more to find out, by her own account, the source would be Naboo. And if there was nothing to find on Naboo...then perhaps that would tell a tale as well?
