"It's energy," Wanda said, pulling back away from Buffy's outstretched hand. She didn't think she had enough energy concentrated to burn on contact, but better safe than sorry.
The fire -- the energy -- broke into little pieces with the disruption, some of it sinking back into Wanda's hands and some of it crackling and sparking and dissipating.
"It's like the energy I create as weapons, but...squished together, forced through..." Wanda shrugged, not having the words. "So that it comes out..." Wanda wiggled her fingers like they were flames.
But Buffy's information about vampires and mind manipulation made her lower her gaze and frown. She was sure she hadn't ever mentioned her abilities with mental manipulation to Buffy -- she was afraid of what other people would do if they knew about those powers. She didn't want them to fear her, but somehow that had turned around and she was afraid of them, and their judgment.
Once, with her brother, with his powers combined with hers, she had felt like she could take on the world. Now...
Wanda swallowed against the lump in her throat, as the memories of her brother flooded her mind. But now, it was different. And with the arrival of more and more Avengers, she didn't know how long her personal reticence on the subject would do any good, but she'd still kept up her habit of silence. Had someone told Buffy? ...but maybe Buffy meant something else. Or maybe Wanda shouldn't have said she could make someone think something. She'd only meant it in the way that anyone could fool the senses, but...
She'd have to be more careful, she decided. It wasn't that much of a jump from energy manipulation to mental powers.
Wanda sighed, and shook her head, trying to shake away all extraneous thoughts. She had a job to do. "I will do whatever it takes," she assured Buffy. And if it took mental manipulation... She'd take that fence when she came to it. Not that it sounded like mental powers would do much good against vampires anyway, she'd better depend on physical powers.
Wanda summoned a bit more energy, until it glowed in her fist. "So let's go do this."
