"You might need to do bigger, depending on what happens." Buffy told her with a perky sounding voice that somehow had a sense of menace to it. How Buffy pulled that off, who knew, but she did. "Sometimes you get easy nights and others you just have to cause some mass destruction to save the world. And for the record, I dig the name."
Buffy nodded, "Works for me. Let me know if anything." She made her way ever so casually over to their chosen target and sat herself down in on a stool next to him. The bartender, a large hulking alien that she thought of as the love child of the Kool-Aid Man and Geoffrey the Giraffe, asked her what she wanted. She pointed to a bottle she recognized from Naboo.
Once she had her drink, Buffy turned her attention on the person next to her. He was humanoid, his skin a pale blue. His eyes were a deep red with dark blue hair that was sloppy and short. Now that she was next to him, all the negativity Buffy thought she was imagining before smacked into her. She felt a surge of claustrophobia created by the feelings and it took a lot just to keep her composure. What the hell? It reminded her of the time she could read minds, only with less words and more raw emotion.
"You got a problem?"
Forced back into the present, Buffy realized he was talking to her. She blinked, momentarily taken aback. "Everyone does," she made an effort to regain control of things. "Anyone that says otherwise is lying or trying to sell you something."
He snorted and mumbled a retort that Buffy couldn't translate and then took a large swig of his own drink. "That's Tenebris for you."
She was all ready to keep the conversation simple at the moment, when she noticed he wore a simple looking crucifix around his neck, mostly hidden under his shirt. That got her attention. It didn't look decorative and while it could easily be nothing, it could also be a sign they were on the right track. She pretended to absently pull out her own crucifix necklace out from under her shirt and began to twist the chain around her finger. "I wouldn't know. I just got here."
"Then you should leave. There's nothing but bad luck here." She could feel his eyes suddenly on her, or rather the necklace, but she feigned interest in her drink.
"Maybe, but I've hopefully got business here-"
"Where did you get that?" He hissed at her in a whisper and reached out for her necklace. She quickly leaned out of his reach and his red eyes narrowed as his gaze darted around the room. He was both terrified and angry now. "Don't flaunt it!"
Okay, she hadn't expected that reaction. But she slid it back under the shirt and expressed some confusion. "What is wrong with you?"
Instead of answering, he quickly moved to get up from his seat with the intent on leaving. Buffy grabbed his arm firmly, so much so that he couldn't break free. He suddenly seemed panicked, "Let go!"
"Not until you tell me what the heck is going on." She tightened her grip until he settled down, though he still squirmed in his seat. "I've been here five minutes and you're wigging out."
"She doesn't like to see those," he said, staring at where her cross was hidden. "And she has people everywhere."
"Who is 'she'?" When he refused to respond, Buffy squeezed his arm again.
He yelped, "I don't know!" Despite his exclamation, he was still trying to speak in low whispers to her all while struggling. "Not personally. But she... she ate my partner. I thought she was human but humans don't move like that."
"If you stop being an ass I might be able to help you." Buffy leaned closer, "But I need more than that."
His expression was grim. "She likes to hang out in the Dystrazia casino. It's uptown, built into one of the cliffs. Now can I go?"
She was wary, but she didn't feel like he was lying. "Do you know how many more like her there are?" He shook his head and with a frustrated sigh, she let him go. As soon as he was free, he bolted out of the bar like lightning, sidestepping Wanda in his haste.
The whole encounter hadn't gone as she imagined. She actually thought there would be more violence in general. But it seemed like she just got lucky tonight. That was possible at least once, right? Maybe that whole Force thing was with her. Or it was a trap. Joy.
