Much Needed Silences and Surprises Who: Angelica and Sophie Where: Wandering What: Finding stuff (diamond ring and ringbox and gardening spade and shears) Rating: PG-13
Angelica and Sophie had run into one another earlier on in the day. Sophie felt so sorry for the older woman that she'd just instinctively stuck to her side trying to cheer her up. She didn't like to see the redhead feeling so miserable, and it was obvious that the burns and recovering from feeling like crap had been making her feel miserable. Angelica was actually on the mend. She didn't have the chills anymore and she wasn't sick to her stomach either. She'd lost the fever pretty quickly, so now she was closer and closer to being right as rain. She knew that within a few days she'd feel as great as normal. Too bad it wasn't a few days later already. It wasn't great feeling sick, period.
The redhead had already gotten pretty restless. She didn't like sitting on her ass and she found that the younger girl wasn't bad company, she just worried way too damn much. Sophie was trying to help Angelica for the most part and when the older woman had decided to wander around a bit to get her limbs moving and not be lazy, she'd decided to follow. The two women had little in common, but their wandering around the area, though not far enough to get lost, was done mostly in silence. Sophie didn't mind it. It gave her time to be quiet. She didn't have to talk about what'd happened with Quinn to the redhead. Sophie felt guilty enough already, but the police detective said nothing.
Sophie just....needed to not think about what had happened to Quinn. She felt like it was her fault that he'd died. She hadn't thought to ask if he had any allergies. She hadn't thought to check and see if he wanted her to try, she'd just let him because he'd seemed so capable. She hadn't thought to try and say to wait. It wasn't a great train of thought, but Sophie needed to let the thoughts play out in her head to get rid of them. Angelica, though she could tell something was wrong, gave Sophie the silence that she needed. She was a quiet person unless she had something to say anyway.
The two didn't talk for the longest time, just kept wandering, probably in circles. Angelica, though she was fine with the silence, felt the need to offer the smaller girl something. “Hey, it'll be okay.” She told Sophie, clearing her throat. She didn't want to offer too much because this wasn't going to be a habit, and she didn't know what else to say. Sophie blinked at the words and fought back her emotions. “Okay.” Was her only response as she looked anywhere but at the redhead.
The girl was obviously suffering, they both knew it, but it was better not to rub salt into an open wound. Sophie actually stepped a bit further from Angelica, near some high grass, hoping that the woman wouldn't notice she was tearing up. It was then that she saw something lying just a few steps away. Sophie wandered and Angelica followed, wanting to be sure the girl was okay. When the older woman saw what Sophie pulled out from their place stuck in the ground she almost laughed. A gardening spade and shears, they were both a little worn, but both of them sure were in tact. Sophie looked up at Angelica, something shinning in her eyes. “Do you suppose we could use these?”
“I'm sure we can.” Angelica said. Sophie seemed to need anything to distract her, so she tacked on,” Why don't you go put them at camp where they're safe, I'm right behind you.” She told the younger girl, and Sophie seemed to catch the hint, moving ahead of Angelica, carrying the tools close to her chest as if she were protecting them. Poor kid.
The detective sighed as she took another look around the area, stepping a bit further, she could see a black something, that almost seemed to be a stone, that was lodged in the ground. It didn't seem to fit, though. The redhead moved to it, bending down and pulling on it, realizing it definitely wasn't a rock of any sort. It was a small, battered jewelry box. Angelica made a slight face as she stood up, holding it and picking clumps of dirt off of it. Why was there a jewelry box here of all places?
The thoughts that came to Angelica at that were definitely something that worried her. Someone had fallen asleep and arrived here with it at some point obviously. Curiously, the box was pushed open and there was a ring inside, a diamond ring. It was beautiful, a simple cut and obviously not new. Snapping the box shut, Angelica swallowed back the emotion and gave a small cough, following after Sophie's footsteps.
This world was still surprising her, and she didn't like it. It worried her.
