Helena nodded. "That is a big concern. You might be right, Rowan. That would be unfair." She sat back down next to Rowan and put her chin on her fist. "The question is, how do we get ahead here? We can't lay in crops in the feild without seed. Do we have enough people to gather enough seed, plough, plant and wait for it all to grow before we pick the place clean, from hand to mouth?" The nearby roseberries were entirely eaten now. The electric purple moss along the stream was patchy and growing scarce as well. There was a lot of field grass with roots to be nibbled on but really, how long would that last? "I don't feel that..life here is sustainable." She used a word that her environmentally conscious friend had used often when rationalizing why they were here - to build a conscientious society that wouldn't destroy everything it touched.
