Nobody should have to go unmissed. Just hearing that made Ryan feel sad. It sounded like she didn't have anyone... no family, no friends or even acquaintances. How did anyone get to that point? It was harder for him to relate than it might have been for some people, he supposed, since he'd been the center of his parents' lives and had had tons of friends both growing up and in New Orleans once he'd settled in there to live. He couldn't imagine being completely alone.
"I'm sorry," he whispered, even though he didn't feel like she was trying to solicit sympathy. What else could he say? He wouldn't feel right not acknowledging that that had to be difficult as hell.
