"I understand," Meredith said with a nod. "Most of the people in my chess club are older, too. And in the chemistry club, but they're not much older because most of them are in college." She certainly didn't have any problem speaking her thoughts and while most of the things she said made very little sense to everyone except her, she said them anyway.
Meredith listened as Helena told her about the different plant life that they had found over the past week. She silently watched as Helena went into the stream and showed her the mirkweed, making a mental note of all the plant names. Remembering things was not something Meredith struggled with. She then took the moss that the woman was offering to her and gave it a tiny sniff. The young girl would have no problem eating all of these foreign plants, after all she had already tasted some of the grass and the dirt shortly after her arrival.
"It's a good thing there's a variety," she said with a nod. "That should help keep the plants healthier longer than if we were all picking off the same bush for an extended period of time."
