Who: Claire Danvers, OPEN to anyone
When: Monday, late morning
Where: Starting at Potts Tower, on her way out
What: Claire's headed out to get stuff for tacos. GIVE HER SOME RANDOM INTERACTION, PLEASE!
Rating: Pretty tame! TBD.

Tacos. Claire desperately wanted tacos. Of course, they didn't have the things she needed to make tacos in the apartment. There was beer (Shane's) and Coke (which they shared) and milk for cereal in the fridge. No meat, no lettuce or cheese. Nothing resembling the ingredients for tacos.

This sucked.

There was really no option but to go out and get the things she needed. Shane was probably going to freak out about her venturing out on her own, but it wasn't like she hadn't been here by herself for over three months. Shane was like that, though, completely overprotective and to be honest she usually didn't mind it. In fact, she sort of liked it. Even if she couldn't admit that to him.

Claire doublechecked her backpack, which she was pretty much never without. Wallet, books, stakes. She hadn't bumped into any vampires, yet, and maybe the rules were different here, but habit was habit. After 2 years in Morganville, she never left home without stakes or some other kind of protection against vampires.

Satisfied that she had everything, she left, locking the door behind her and making her way downstairs. Maybe she'd wander around the city a little while she was at it. Or she could swing by the lab, even if she was technically off today. It wasn't like she needed a plan. Beyond tacos, of course. There were definitely going to be tacos.

Harry was hungry. His pocket was full of a bit of change and American dollars, and he wanted something different and preferably off of a truck. Because he'd learned that Americans had things called food trucks where they cooked right there in the truck. He figured he could get just about anything there if he found a few. Armed with just his wand -- and a hat --

(The hat was very important because his scar was noticeable. And he found out the last time he left Potts Tower, that having his glasses on and showing off that scar meant that people would know who he was. But not really, as most didn't think he really was Harry Potter but just some bloke dressing up as him. He'd rather not get yelled at and called named.)

He walked out into the lobby at the same time that the elevator door opened, and he smiled over at the girl who got off of it. "Hi," he greeted.

"Hi!" Claire answered back, smiling. Cute and friendly guys always made her wary, but she thought that was fair since she hadn't had the best of luck in that department. Shane and Michael aside, cute boys who were nice to her usually ended up being psychotic serial killers who wanted to drain all of her blood from her body.

Okay, so to be fair that had only happened the one time, but Claire was a fast learner.

On top of that, this guy looked familiar to her, but she couldn't place him at first. She studied him for a moment, trying to figure him out, which was probably slightly rude. Claire couldn't help it, though. She hated that feeling that she should know something when she didn't know.

And then it hit her.

"Oh my God, you're Harry Potter, aren't you?"

It probably sounded crazy, but if there was anything she'd learned in the last two years, it was that crazy things were always possible.

Harry adjusted his Yankees ball cap and pulled a face but then nodded. "Uh, yeah, hi. I'm -- it's just Harry, thanks." He held out a hand to her, shook hers, then shoved both his hands into his jeans pockets.

"I was just going out to get something to eat," he said, trailing off a bit.

Really, why had he even taken the time to say hi to her? He had no idea who she was. For all he knew, she was some rabid "Harry Potter" books fan who would latch onto him. No, he thought, that wasn't fair at all.

"Oh, sorry, sometimes my mouth operates faster than my brain." Or sometimes she just said things out loud that she should keep to herself. She wasn't nearly as bad as Eve, of course. Thinking about that made her really miss Eve. She wanted more than anything to text her, but somehow she doubted those messages would get through.

She smiled at Harry as she shook his hand and when she pulled back, she readjusted her backpack slightly. "Oh, cool, I was going to the store. I wanted tacos and my kitchen is in a sad state of emptiness."

That was too much information, probably. She wasn't very good at the small talk thing, though. Or talking in general. Unless it was about vampires or physics.

It was probably really wrong that she missed talking to Myrnin, but at least she usually knew what to say to him.

Harry nodded a few times. "Cool. Tacos are cool. I read online that New York has food trucks that have just about any kind of food you want. I was going to try and go find one." He held out his phone, which had a map with some pins on it of a few of the trucks out today. "You want to come with? Or do you want to buy your stuff and cook it yourself?"

Really, after the ridiculous and gross cooking Harry had done at the Dursleys', he would rather someone else prepare food for him.

Claire thought it was nice of Harry to invite her along. She was a little bit suspicious, because she didn't know him and in her experience, sometimes nice guys just weren't what they seemed. She knew this new world wasn't Morganville, though, so even though she wasn't quite as naive as she'd once been, she was trying not to assume her was a serial killer or something.

Plus, he was Harry Potter. He was one of the good guys, right?

Ignoring that the last time she'd gone for a walk with a cute stranger she'd almost died, Claire nodded her head. "That sounds like a lot of fun, actually. The tacos were supposed to be for tonight, anyway."

Claire glanced at the pins on Harry's phone and then back at the street. "What kind of food did you have in mind?" she asked him.

He smiled at her and then shrugged. "Whatever truck we end up finding first, really," he said. "If you want tacos maybe there's a taco truck, but I'll really eat anything." As if to prove his point, his stomach growled.

He turned left and waited for her to follow. Hopefully they wouldn't have to use the subway or anything, and could just walk until they found something. "I'd rather find a real food truck though and not one of those street vendors. I had a pretty bad pretzel off of one the other day."

Claire shook her head. "Nah, we're having tacos for dinner, so lunch should be something else." Besides, she wanted brisket tacos and the trucks weren't likely to have those."

She followed along with him, letting him lead the way since he had the map. This was certainly unexpected, but she had to admit she was having a good time. She was starting to relax and remember that this wasn't Morganville and it was perfectly safe to hang out with someone she didn't really know.

"New York is supposed to have really good pizza. Hot dogs, too," she suggested.

He nodded. "Sure, we can see what we'll find." He stopped near the closest street corner and stared down at the phone in his hand. "I've never been here before," Harry admitted. "I hope we don't get lost." Though he supposed if they did, he would be able to use his wand to find the right direction home. Though it occurred to him he didn't really know how the statute worked here. Did it, even? He knew he could perform underage magic, but should he?

"I like pizza," he said. "Off of a truck, though? Or should we find a shop?"

Claire wasn't too worried about getting lost. Their phones had maps on them, right? If they could map their way to a food truck, they could probably find Potts Tower again just as easily.

"I think there's a GPS on your phone, anyway," she pointed out. "So we'll be okay even if we do get lost."

She thought about where to get pizza, although she wasn't married to the idea. An actual pizza place would probably have better pizza, but that wasn't what he'd come looking for and she didn't want him to change his plans on her account. "Well, you did want to find food off a truck," she pointed out. "Maybe we should just get whatever they have on the first one we find?"

Harry glanced over at her and smiled. "Sure, that sounds good. I mean, I'm not picky about my food or anything. I'll eat pretty much whatever you put in front of me." He shoved his phone then his hands in his pockets. "I just think it's pretty brilliant you can buy food off a truck here."

"I'm not either and food off of a truck sounds AWESOME, doesn't it?"

They didn't have food trucks in Morganville and it was actually pretty funny just trying to imagine one there. Even though she'd been in New York for a couple of months now, she still hadn't experienced it.

"Let's just grab something from the first truck we come to?" she suggested. Claire might like her lists and plans, but that didn't mean she couldn't be spontaneous!

Harry looked at her and smiled. "That sounds like a plan. I think there are a bunch over by Wall Street? I bet all those business types like their lunch breaks and such, yeah?" He checked his phone for the direction and then headed off that way.
