If Mary had her way, this conversation would never happen. If she had her way, John would never find out about their future. It wasn't so much that she didn't want him to know the tragedy that would befall the Winchesters, but that the tragedy was her fault. Entirely and completely. Mary was the one who pushed over the first domino in the sequence--that stupid, desperate demon deal. It was her actions that would eventually get herself killed and send John on a revenge-fueled downward spiral that would expose their boys to hunting. Now, Mary had also had more than four months to come to grips with the consequences of her choices, and she tried very hard not to feel guilty anymore; it took away from the quality of time she got to spend with Sam and Dean, and she didn't want to throw away this chance they all had. However. It was much easier to do all that without John there. She'd desperately missed him while she'd been in this realm without him, but she'd secretly hoped he would never show up so she wouldn't have to go through this exact experience. Alas, there they were. After her shift at the diner, Mary was home in their apartment, baking little pot pies for them to eat and hopefully receive the news better. She'd kissed John upon coming home--a habit she was only too happy to pick back up, then gone straight to work on dinner. When the savory pies were in the oven, she considered making herself busy with some kind of dessert, but decided she was too tired of being on her feet, and went to sit on the couch with her husband, her cheek on his shoulder as she leaned into him.
