She braced herself for when he would come through the door like a hurricane and either kill or turn her, but that didn't happen. He tried the doorknob, but stopped at the lock. It made her frown in confusion, and she wondered why he didn't just break down the door. It took her a long minute, but Rose realized two things: one, the warmth and emotion was back in his voice, and two, she didn't feel nauseous. The first he could have faked if he'd wanted to, but the second...there was no way he could turn off the sick feeling that swept over her whenever a Strigoi was near her. She'd suppressed it during his visits to her room, but it had never actually gone away.

That alone made her tentatively approach the door so she could peer out through the peep-hole. What she saw surprised her. Oh, he was still wearing the same things he always wore, still had on that long duster, but...there was a slight color to his skin and his eyes were not red, but brown. If she didn't know better, if the last few months hadn't happened to her, she would have said he was a dhampir again. It was impossible, much as she'd wished there were a way to do it, but then, she'd previously thought that traveling to another dimension had been impossible too.
"What happened to you?" she asked through the door. Maybe the thing that brought them to this world had healed him...
