"Normal's fine," he said and he turned his attention to the task in front of him. The nice thing about the recipe was that it was simple to just go through the process. Read instructions, work with ingredients, and then at the end of all that you would have a product - in this case pancakes - and it was also simple to just keep the process going. It didn't require thinking, or coming up with something to say, or trying to figure out how to help his mom more when he didn't even know how to help her. He didn't really entirely know how to deal with it himself.
"I don't suppose you have frozen blueberries? Or fresh?" He asked. "We could put some in the batter and then we could have blueberry pancakes if we wanted. It kind of sounds good..."
