So this is how it starts, right? I guess I should think about getting a dress for the prom as if that's what the important thing is right n.

So dresses are required?

Usually, yeah.

Like how usually?

Proms are formal dances, so formal wear is required.

See but pants can be pretty formal. Depending on the pants.

If you want to wear pants, I'm sure you can.

Sounds like you're terribly excited at this prospect.

I'm just not really in the mood for a dance.

And they require you to attend?

I'm not required, but going makes my uncle happy, so I am.

Placing your own happiness behind someone else's seems like a foolish thing to do. If you don't want to go, you're well within your rights not to.

If going to some dance makes him happy, I'll go. It's just a dance.

That's typically how it starts. But it's your life.

How what starts?

Rolling over, letting someone else take advantage of your kindness. Too many people think it's the big stuff, but it's always the little things that define who you are.

It's not like going to the dance would make me unhappy or hurt me or anything. It might end up being fun. It's just prom.

You seemed pretty keen on complaining about it a second ago.

I wasn't complaining, I was just saying I wasn't really in the mood for it. People do things they're not in the mood for all the time.

Like I said, it's your life. Do with it what you want, and if you want to do something you're not in the mood for just to make someone else happy, that's your call.

I know it is - and maybe I'll end up in the mood by the time I get there. Guess we'll see.

Ah, baseball. Haven't thought about that in a long time; it isn't exactly commonplace in the future.

I don't even think it's as commonplace now as it was when I was a kid, so that doesn't really surprise me.

Well, there's not much room on a spaceship to play baseball to be fair.

Did you have anything.... holodeck-y?

Sort of. Nearly every computer has advanced far beyond what we have here. Modern input peripherals are usually holographically displayed in front of the user at a height and angle for ergonomic ease -- communicating via holographic video displays have become fairly more common, but it depends on the level of technology you've got access to. An organisation I worked for implemented the use of holographic communications displays into all of its ships. Some people undergo cybernetic enhancements to their fingertips so they can bring up the holo interface with a swipe of their hands and input their commands without having to fuss over the other commands typically required.

That sounds like a commitment. I mean, I can think of a few people who would love to be able to do that kind of thing, though.

Text me with the color you get so I can match my tie to it. We'll be super cute.
