This past month had been a whirlwind for Cookie Lyon. Had someone told her that she was going to be friends with a trickster god and be surrounded by superheroes left and right she would have rolled her eyes and had security throw them out. But that was exactly the case now. She still couldn't wrap her head around the idea of it all but rather than fret too much about it, she went with the flow. That was the kind of woman she'd been her entire life. And now, it was time for her to kick off her impossibly high heels and settle down for the night. A few weeks ago she'd recorded the SNL episode with Taraji P. Henson - Cookie still didn't quite feel comfortable thinking about the fact that she was a clone of the woman who portrayed her on television - out of sheer curiosity. Did her actress live up to Cookie herself? With a large bowl of popcorn and a glass of champagne, she took a seat on her sofa and flicked the episode on. Seeing her face on someone else entirely did her head in but she was able to block out the strangeness and focus on the show. Admittedly she chuckled a few times here or there but overall she found herself to be quite bored. Once the show was over, she looked up reviews of the episode, pleased to see that she wasn't alone in her boredom. Many of the comments mentioned that the skit with Cookie on Sesame Street was the saving grace, and that instantly lifted her mood. It also made her think. Clearly she wasn't going to be as wealthy as she was back home - her company didn't exist here after all - but that might not be a problem considering how many people knew her name. She'd seen words like 'iconic' and 'unforgettable' thrown around, and it made her curious. What if she could use this popularity to her benefit? If these little young girls on VH1 could get famous from being on reality TV shows, what did that mean for someone as business and people savvy as herself? Soon Cookie began wondering how much a TV interview would pay, what kind of brand she could build for herself, and how she'd achieve the same success in this world as she had at home. And to think, tonight was supposed to be a night to relax. |
