Evie's general feelings towards this whole tesser-whatever situation fluxed between feeling completely at home (after all, she was still in the city, and as she had learned recently, the book she's from is considered 'historical fiction' with a touch of the supernatural...so besides that latter bit, which had really been a new discovery for Evie anyway, this 'world' wasn't terribly different than her own) and completely out of place (she was from 1926, and suddenly it was 2013. None of her friends were here and people dressed and acted very differently). Evie did seem to have an easier time mixing with locals at clubs and parties and the like than she did with her fellow refugees- some of whom were from truly bizarre places. Amongst the locals, Evie didn't stand out too ridiculously- some people thought she was that girl from Skins, but Evie typically just laughed and said "Oh, I get that all the time," and insisted that she wasn't really the character- after all, she wasn't exactly lying- she wasn't the girl from Skins, Evie just didn't always point out that she was from another work of fiction. She dressed as 1920s as popular stores would allow, but this seemed to make people think she was just 'retro' or this strange 'hipster' word she'd been hearing. It was only when she got going with the slang or when her unfamiliarity with modern technology came to light that people started to suspect she was a refugee. But even then, not many had heard of her books yet, so she could still feign normalcy to a certain degree
With her tea finished and as she neared the end of her magazine, Evie got up to leave. Magazines were just another thing that had changed over the years- the models looked so different than they did in her time, and honestly, Evie didn't find them at all to be the bees knees. Contemplating her distaste with modern fashion, Evie was startled when someone spoke to her.
"Oh, that's alright, doll," Evie smiled. "Wasn't really watching where I was going," she said, and was about to be off on her way, when something about the girl made her stop. "Hey, are you from 'round Potts Tower?" she asked. Taking in the girl's expression and quiet way of speaking, Evie pointed out, "Looks like something's eating you."
