I have studied the American history of this world, and that history is problematic. That behavior was deplorable. There are many on Naboo I would hold up for you. As they are not here, I will speak of and for myself. As many flaws as I have, bigotry is not one of them. And if you see it there, I will work to rid myself of it. Despite our peace with the Gungans, I was taught as a child that they were barbarians, a violent backwards race. As tolerant as our society was for the other worlds and thousands of species in the Republic, there was bigotry there. But when I met my first gungan, Jar Jar Binks, he was nothing like I was told. He was sweet, kind, worried, and caring. So I listened to him.
When the Senate would do nothing to help my people, who were dying, I returned to Naboo, and Jar Jar took me to his people. They were suspicious because of the conflicts in our past, and they were unimpressed by the finery of the queen's wardrobe. But I was dressed as a handmaiden, as part of the plan. I begged Boss Nass for his help, and I knelt before him with the respect he deserved, one leader to another. With his help, we freed our planet from the Trade Federation's invasion.
That was only the beginning. We respect each other and work together. I won them a seat in the Republic because they deserved their own representative. Naboo children are taught of their bravery and kindness, about their traditions and beliefs. They have fought beside us for nothing more than the strength of our friendship. We defended our world from a plague that was meant to wipe us out.
Had bigotry ruled, both our races would have been slaves twelve years ago. I worked with the Refugee Relief Foundation, to find homes for those who had lost theirs. I entered politics because I could help more people there. My story is known in this world. You can see it for yourself.
