Dorian | Steve (616)
Darling, Tony takes his decisions as fact because they are. He speaks truth, it’s just not always the truth that you want to hear. When he told you that Superhero Registration was inevitable, it was. He sought to control the situation over opposition not because he believed in the cause, but because he believed in process. When he told you that the only way to save the planet was to destroy another, it was the truth. You can accuse him all you like of taking a shortcut or not working harder to find a better solution, but I say -- How dare you -- you can’t reject truth because you don’t like it and ask someone to provide you with a truth that you will no more than I can reject responsibility for a murder I’ve committed because I feel remorse. If you want a better option than the one Stark provided you with, find it yourself and when you cannot, perhaps then you’ll understand that making the call, and presenting you with information you won’t like -- knowing how disappointed you’ll be and how you might react is difficult, painful and necessary.
Tony loves you. Say what you will about being angry, say what you will about the decisions he’s made, but he stands up to you and tells you the truth when no one else will because he thinks you deserve to know it. He fought to get you that position on the Illuminati and they erased discussions of the world-destroying device from your mind because it was the only way to ensure your safety. He did that for you, Steve, not against you.
He doesn’t lack compassion. If anything, he has too much.
