Hicks would have waiting quietly for his turn and when he spoke it would have been obvious that this is a man who doesn't like to waste his words. He'd have spoken bluntly but politely, like he was speaking to an officer he respected.
He would have said something along the lines of humanity being a species that is full of promise. That yes, they make mistakes but that they learn from those mistakes. And that committing genocide on a species that has barely set foot off its own planet is extreme. Humanity can't be condemned for defending itself from those who choose to invade it.
