Re: Testimony for earth
Beverly Katz spoke to the celestials respectfully, always using a title when addressing them. She acknowledged that their race had vastly greater experience in most areas: their technology, which showcased their superior understanding of all sorts of sciences, their interactions with other races, which their own judgments show (they watch many races, they see more cultures, diversity, ways of thinking), and suggested that they are likely an older race than humanity, certainly more experienced. Beverly respected their authority and responsibility to look out for the galaxy.
But she also likened humanity to a toddler, a young child, just learning how to walk, how to act, how to speak, how to think of others. Humanity makes mistakes, great ones. They learn from them, and sometimes they stumble again, but they learn again. They pick themselves up again. She gave the Avengers as examples:
Steve Rogers, who fought HYDRA in World War II, and joined SHIELD to help protect the world and tore down that institution when it became clear it was strongly influenced by HYDRA. He did what was right, what was necessary, for earth and for humanity. Just as importantly, people chose with him. Everyday members of SHIELD chose to do what was right, even though it got many of them killed. Beverly listed the names of those who stood up at Captain Rogers's call and noted which of them died for it.
Tony Stark, who used to manufacture weapons and sell them. After learning where some of his weapons ended up, he cleaned up after himself and his company, taking responsibility. He left the weapons industry and moved into clean energy. He became a part of a team to protect people.
Bruce Banner, whose experimentation created the Hulk, spent time on the run but turned to helping people. He learned to control changes into the Hulk and defend New York and the planet. He makes scientific progress and works on social issues. Not a menace but a hero.
Natasha Romanoff, formerly a spy and an assassin, who turned straight to join SHIELD and saved many lives, including by joining the Avengers and closing the portal during the attack on New York City. She joined Steve Rogers in doing the right thing and taking down SHIELD when discovering it was as corrupt as her former bosses.
Clint Barton, without whom Natasha Romanoff would be the name of another dead assassin, another bad guy. Instead of seeing only the bad in someone who made mistakes gave them another chance. That very action gave Romanoff the chance to do everything she's done.
And Thor, who is Asgardian, from another race, older and more experienced than humanity. He is honorable and wise and sees the potential in earth, in humanity. Asgard has protected earth in the past. And he chooses to help earth, to give it guidance and protection. His continued assistance shows Asgard's continued support of humanity's potential.
Which is precisely what humanity needs: time, experience, and guidance. Other earths, humans in other dimensions, have become wiser and worthy. And this earth, this humanity, has shown potential to do just that. Humanity makes mistakes, and as the Celestials said, there is much wanting in humanity. But the best choice is not to wipe them out but to give them time. Asgardians will provide guidance, should the Celestials have better uses of their time or more important matters to attend to. Give humanity a chance.
