Han shifted the tiny figurine of the Millenium Falcon to the left. "There," he said, taking a step back. It was only as he looked at the newly organized shelf, which was mostly just repair manuals for Earth vehicles that he'd never encountered and a few knick-knacks that he'd picked up for Anakin, that he realized he was speaking to an empty room. He'd half-expected that familiar half-laugh, half-roar that always seemed to accompany one of his dumb sentimental moments. But of course, this wasn't the Falcon. It was a room in Potts Tower, New York, New York. Earth. And Chewie wasn't here. It was just him, him and Leia and sometimes Luke. He shoved the last of the boxes under the bed, deciding he'd deal with it later. He'd managed to put away most of things already. Not that he owned very many. He mainly had a few sets of clothes, the manuals he'd never use, and the haphazardly thrown together Christmas decorations (which he'd just as haphazardly thrown in the closet). Being a smuggler and an Alliance member, he'd never really had the opportunity to accumulate possessions, and he supposed that habit had translated to his civilian life, too. "Leia?" He walked out into the main living area of the apartment. It was their apartment now. The novelty of sharing such a space hadn't quite worn off yet for him. Their apartment. Like, somehow they'd managed to come together, in spite of time and space and everything else being upside down and backwards. "You know, I've been thinking we should check out that Indian take-out place, next." Leia had been over the moon since she and Han had gotten married. It was different being married and knowing that they would be married. Not that she minded being married, far from it in fact as she found it rather enjoyable. She and Han had known each other for a number of years and had gone through a lot together. It made it easier to know one another. Being in New York had allowed them to grow closer too. Then there were their children. It made things rather interesting when it came down to it. Leia had just been finishing setting up some of the furniture and objects that were to go in their living room when Han called out to her. It was odd living together but at the same time it felt completely natural too. She was glad it was finally happening though and their children were happy for them too. “Sure,” she said with a smile, moving to press a quick kiss to his lips. “Lunch or dinner?” she asked glancing at the clock to see what time it actually was. The two of them had slowly been exploring a lot of different food places since they had arrived both before and after they had become married. It was fun some of the food she probably wouldn’t go back but some stuff she had enjoyed a lot. Indian sounded good to her from what she had heard about it though she had yet to try any of it though. "What's that in-between time called? Brunch?" He grinned, trying to remember all the different Earth vocabulary for meals. "Or is that the in-between morning time?" He glanced at the clock. It was definitely too late for brunch, or even lunch, really. "Let's just call it smuggler's dinner." He was pretty sure that qualified as an actual meal, even if he hadn't exactly lived like a smuggler for a long time. "I think they've got a menu on the internet." Least, he'd been here long enough to stop mixing up the internet and Holonet. That had to be a step in the right direction. He found his phone and looked up the website for the place. It had one of those weird Earth names that he couldn't pronounce, which wasn't surprising. There were a lot of restaurants in New York, and a lot of them had names Han couldn't pronounce. "Let's see… I've heard curry's a must-try. And the naan bread..." And maybe this was a little bit more domestic than Han was used to: standing in a shared living space, discussing potential take-away options, married. He couldn't remember if he'd made the conscious decision to become respectable, or if it had just happened. And if it had, did it matter? He was pretty sure there was no one he'd rather be respectable for than an Alderaanian princess. And yea, that pretty much said everything about him. "What do you think?" Leia laughed at Han’s suggestion of calling it Smuggler’s Dinner. “I suppose that works. As you said brunch is the morning one,” she said with a smile. “I truly wish I got to experience it more. There’s something amazing about being able to sleep in and enjoy yourself, to take your time in getting ready,” she said with a shake of her head. “Got to say that was one of the best things about the honeymoon. Along with being with you of course,” she said with a smile. Between her work and her classes at the ESD she didn’t get to do it all that often unfortunately. “I’m happy to try that but perhaps a couple of different strengths of curries to see which one we prefer?” she suggested. “I know some of them can be rather strong,” she pointed out. “the Naan bread sounds fine though. Perhaps they do some rice with them?” she suggested as something else to add to it. "Well," he said, a conspiratorial smile on his face, "I'm sure your doting husband might be able to arrange that once in awhile. When he's not handsomely saving the universe from alien invasions… or sweeping his beautiful wife off to faraway beaches." He knew that their honeymoon had been a one time thing. With SWORD and other business, he suspected that it'd be hard to sneak away like that again. There was just too much for them to do in this universe. Too much that called their attention away from each other, really. "Sounds good," he agreed. "We don't want to get anything we can't handle." He remembered all too well his experience with ghost peppers, which had been -- an adventure, to say the least. "And we can give what we don't want to the kids." Han had a theory that food brought families together, and he wasn't ready yet to be proven wrong on that theory. He hadn't mastered toast and burnt sugar cookies for nothing. “Oh I do look forward to seeing what he comes up with,” she replied with a cheeky smile before leaning in to give him a quick kiss. Everything really was perfect. At the moment Leia could easily forget that they were in another dimension - besides the mention of children, she was that happy with how their lives were going. She knew realistically that it wouldn’t happen often but it was nice to dream and it would be even nicer when it did manage to occur. “Sounds good or we can even invite them over to share with us straight away?” he offered. “I mean we haven’t exactly had much family time all together since Christmas and a new apartment is always a great excuse. Not that we need one…” "That's a great idea," Han agreed. "How about I put in the food order and you give them a call? It'd be nice to spend time as a family... " Even if, he thought to himself, it was a slightly mismatched set of events that had brought them together. He appreciated that they were all doing their best to put things back together how they used to be. "Especially now that we're all pretty much on the same page." “Of course,” Leia said moving in to place a peck on his cheek before heading off to give them a call. She was happy, ecstatic and content She was happy where she was currently and she wouldn’t change it for the world. |
