Raven was still reeling from the shock of realizing what Clarke had done when her surroundings changed. One moment, she was screaming as Bellamy Blake held her, trying to give her some kind of comfort as she screamed and the next she was staring into that strange opening in the sky. The grief she felt at losing Finn was still strong. It was worse than any pain she'd ever felt. Raven would take spinal surgery with no drugs a thousand times over if it meant she could have her best friend back. She could still see it in her head, but curiosity soon took over, at least for the moment. The need to figure out what she was looking at momentarily trumped all of her grief and her anger. It was a gorgeous sight. Planets, stars, the whole of the universe or maybe it was multiple universes just above, just within her grasp. She was seized with the irrepressible urge to reach out and touch them, so she did. The pain she'd felt moments ago felt like nothing. Raven found herself in more agony than anything she'd ever experienced. Having a bullet removed from her back was nothing compared to this. She was sure she would pass out, maybe even actually die from the pain, but then moments later it was over and she was standing in a room. Soldiers, she realized as then men and women surrounding her came into focus. Raven would have asked a million questions if she wasn't focused on slowing her breathing. Some time later, Raven help a pamphlet in her hand. There was a keycard in her pocket and a communication device she'd been given. A cell phone, they'd called it. She'd been up to her room for a shower, although putting on her old, dirty clothes kind of sucked, and then she made her way back down, out into the streets of New York. Turning in a circle, Raven took in her surroundings. In all her time on the ground, on Earth, she had never seen anything like this. It was like the pictures of Earth in olden times that depicted thriving cities instead of ruins. Before the nuclear holocaust that had wiped out most of their race and left the survivors confined to space. Was this what it had really looked like, she wondered as she looked around her in awe. Taking a deep breath, she realized the air was different, too. It tasted different, smelled different. Everything was different here, and yet there was a kind of familiarity that reminded her of her Earth. Of course, it had to be. What had just happened was impossible, but she could deal with it if she could pick out the things that were familiar. That would make it easier to adjust to her new reality. Or maybe she was just going crazy. Maybe seeing Finn- no, don't think about that. Raven couldn't afford those thoughts. If she thought about Finn, she'd crumble right here, unable to take another step and she couldn't do that. She was here, on her own, and she had work to do. They said getting home was impossible, but Raven didn't care. She was good with impossible odds. Posted via Journaler. |
