Hello, Potts Tower, I'm going to steal your attention away from your normal Sunday routine on this network to remind you that flu season is very nearly upon us. If you haven't already, please see your doctor about getting a flu vaccine. Anyone who is six months of age and older should get one every year. There are a lot of misconceptions about the flu vaccine, but the biggest is this: it does not give you the flu! It takes the vaccine approximately two weeks to adequately build up antibodies, so if you get sick within two weeks of getting your shot, chances are you were exposed before you got your vaccine, or sometime within that two week period.
And sadly, some people do become sick with the flu that they were vaccinated against -- but this is not common. If you feel like you are coming down with the flu, please visit your doctor immediately, and they will be able to give you some medicines that will help to make your flu symptoms more mild. But above all, if you become ill, rest and plenty of fluids will help tremendously. So queue up your Netflix and rest. Stay home from work or school, and if necessary get an excuse for the days that you will miss.
Flu symptoms include:
Fever* or feeling feverish/chills
Cough
Sore throat
Runny or stuffy nose
Muscle or body aches
Headaches
Fatigue (tiredness)
Some people may have vomiting and diarrhea, though this is more common in children than adults.
