Leading SWORD felt like home to Carol. Sure it was a pain and there was a lot more groundwork to do than there had been back home. But the world needed to be protected and Carol knew this was the best way she could go about doing that. Red tape was there for a reason and when it wasn't, well, Carol had spent years learning how to navigate it and Abigail was just as good in this world as she had been back home at cutting through it before it was too much in their way.
But nothing replaced the sheer joy and exhilaration of flight. Yes work occupied her mind, running through what they needed to look at, what they might possibly find, what she could report back to Brand. But that didn't replace the giddy feeling that thrummed through her, almost drowning out the headache with pure adrenaline. Nothing made Carol happier than flying, and she looked down at the other her for a moment with a bright smile. She barely even noticed that she was starting to feel a little lighter than usual.
"You can keep up better than that." she laughed before looking back up at the sky as the stars started to come into view. They shot up higher and Carol started to feel like air was pulsing through her veins, cold and light and the vision started to blur.
"Wha-" her voice died as the spots in her vision took over, sending everything into black. The last thing she was conscious of was thinking this isn't supposed to happen.
