"If it comes to that, I'm sure they'll get the picture," Sam said. "I have no problem with you protecting yourself, you know that. The opposite, truthfully." He had come to trust her ability to handle herself, though it had taken him a while. Not because of any fault of hers, but because women he loved didn't have a good history with staying safe. And he really, really wanted Veronica to remain untouched by that curse, or run of bad luck, or whatever it was-- because he really, really loved her.
He ran his thumb across her knuckles. "Personally, I think you'd show Buffy up. But don't tell her I said that." It was his bias talking, and it was a joke anyway. He was totally sold on the asskicking tiny blonde thing in both cases, but he wasn't really going to deny that Buffy's superstrength and experience gave her a leg up when it came to taking down vampires.
"Are you going to tell her she should be dating a vampire hunter instead?" he asked, in the same joking tone. "You're going to have to get your mental age to slow down a bit. Though with all the glitter and penguins, I don't think that'll be hard." He leaned slightly back in his chair. "You make me feel younger, more like the age I actually am, for whatever that's worth."
