I think he wanted to show me that he understood.
Having a parent who only ever saw you as an extension of himself. Who thought you were only as valuable and useful as you were compliant. Who never thought you were good enough, no matter what you did. And we dealt with it in different ways, Tony tried to earn it, and I told my father to shove it up his ass. Neither one of us got what we wanted. Both of us could have ended up dead because of our fathers. In an empty house full of useless stuff.
But I think he wanted me to understand that he knows what it's like to be unloved.
