I mean. I do. So you don't really have to worry about me feeling free to do whatever I want.
If you did have some influence, however inadvertent, it's fine, really. The people close to us always do. And as someone who is known to pick up on cues from his surroundings and shift to pass in various circles, to adapt his form to be perceived a certain way, some external influence is expected. I mean. We don't have Balmain, Valentino or Yves Saint Laurent on Asgard, but that doesn't mean I didn't look like myself yesterday, or wasn't wearing my clothes.
And the idea that a fabricated form is less real or less me is bull shit anyway. That the person we choose to be, the way we choose to look, the way our lives shape us is somehow a less authentic self than the body we had no choice but to be born with. It's just a stupid notion that favors those who were born privileged. Who were born the right way. Obviously my perspective on this is different as a shapeshifter and a product of a society based in magic where deeds and acquired reputation can ultimately change your nature. But that seems like more of an admission of the universal state of things than a genuine difference.
So what if you were born different than you ultimately became? So what if choice surpassed nature in some respect? Birth is not, and should not be, determinative of identity. We have no problem shaping our environment, why should we reject the idea of shaping ourselves?
