When Lily went into the bedroom, Severus put his own tea down and wandered over to the nearest cauldron. He obviously did something with potions when he was older and he kind of liked that idea. He'd always liked potions more than anything else in the reading he'd been doing. He'd read just about every book on magic that Mum had, even the ones he wasn't supposed to.
He'd snuck the books on Dark magic out of the basement. He was pretty sure Mum knew but she hadn't ever said anything so he guessed she was okay with it. He liked those books as well. On the occasions when she actually took an interest, Mum always said that he'd be a powerful wizard when he grew up. He was determined to make that true. He'd be powerful and rich and he'd take Mum away from Spinner's End forever and they'd never have to deal with Dad or anyone else like him again.
He turned, a little guiltily when Lily came back in the room and spoke. He knew he didn't have to feel guilty. This was apparently his apartment and his cauldrons.
"That's a phone?" he said skeptically and when she began listing all the other things it could do, his skepticism and his interest grew. How could a phone do things like that? "Let me see. How does it work?"
