It was Lily. Between the colour of her hair and her eyes and her smile, he no longer had any doubts but... that still didn't explain why she was an adult. Or where they were. Or... well, anything really.
"I'm fine," he said a little impatiently. She always asked him that question and he never knew what answer she wanted. He was never fine but what was the point of saying so? There was nothing that either of them could do to change anything.
"Uh... okay." He opened the door fully and stepped out of the way. "I mean, I don't know whose place this is other than it belongs to a wizard but I guess he wouldn't mind you coming in. Do you know who lives here?"
And as though that question triggered an avalanche. "And where are we? What's happening? Dad's going to get angry if he has to come looking for me." He grimaced at that thought. He'd probably get a whack up the side of the head too and then there'd be another argument because of that and Dad would get drunk. And mean. He always got really mean when he was drunk.
