"That's all it took?" Steve asked, a slightly bemused - but pleased - expression on his face. He hadn't expected a different answer, not exactly. If anything, he'd expected her to have other plans. Somewhere else to be, someone else's fight to fight.
Although, as he thought about it, this was her fight, too. She'd been part of the story in her world, and with this world's Winter Soldier so tied up with HYDRA, it was easy to see how it could still be hers as much as his. Coming to Europe wasn't just about finding more information on Bucky. It was about stopping the enemy that had plagued Europe before. He knew there was a connection, and if he had to fight one enemy to get to Bucky, he would. He would do anything to find him again.
"It's a hunch," he continued quickly, "nothing more. But - you know, if I'd just drifted to the shore, I probably still would have drowned. I wasn't able pull myself out of the water completely. Someone did that." He wanted so badly to believe that, that Bucky had chosen to pull him out of the river. "I hope he's in better shape." He hoped he didn't have a reason to worry about his Sharon - or rather, the Sharon who'd been born here, since the woman sitting at the table with him was more his if he wanted to get technical. He barely knew the native Sharon. The one having dinner with him, though: he knew her. "The story's different here. So maybe... well, I still won't let anyone kidnap you."
