Hicks put down his glass and stubbed out his cigarette then leaned back on the sofa and swiped a hand down his face. "Not really. It's added a new level to the fun fest in my head in the middle of the night." From what he'd seen in the movie, he figured she'd understand that well enough. He'd felt a little uncomfortable watching that first part, like he was spying on her.
He laughed mirthlessly. "They found out how much of a bitch karma is though. By the time the Corps got there, both the Sulaco and the base Wey-Yu had set up on the planet were overrun with those damn aliens. There weren't many left alive except for me and the marines who found me."
He tapped his fingers against his side where the acid scarring was. It was more of an absent-minded gesture than because it hurt or he was trying to draw attention to it. "I'd had a chance to send a distress call to the Corps so I knew they were coming. We don't leave people behind. I kept giving them information. Just bits and pieces, doling it out a little at a time, always making sure they knew I had more. Just keeping myself alive until the Corps could get there."
