For just a moment, one brief second, the door that had hit Kaplan in the bad phased out of existence. It ceased to be as Billy looked at Erik more with annoyance than upset or anything even close to anger. A red curtain seemed to trickle from thin air like water down the face of a rock, it swirled around Billy once and his clothes changed effortlessly. He tried to tell himself that he wasn't doing it because he was embarrassed. That he was just trying to show off, but it wasn't entirely true. Lensherr's words stung the way insults always did when a person was far too used to getting them from people who meant to do him harm.
The door returned behind Billy as he exhaled sharply through his nose. He wasn't actually sure what to do next, or what to say. So he just let out the first thing that came to mind: "You know, I just came in here to see what your problem was. You don't have to be rude. Or destroy the tower. Like you really don't need to do that."
