She laughed darkly, shaking her head. "Not really. My dad destroyed evidence that I was involved in stealing the drive and lost his sheriff election. The whole town went to shit after that. More than usual." She wondered, not for the first time, why she ever missed that place. There was a lot of darkness for a city that didn't have monsters or vampires. At least, not like Sam did.
She looked up at him again, her eyes brimming with tears that she didn't want him to see. She exhaled, and thankfully they seemed to absorb before they fell. "I'm not angry any more. I don't even think I was angry when I learned why. I just felt bad that you and Parker broke up because of it. Not that Piz and I lasted much longer either, particularly after I transferred to Stanford." She reached across the table and took his hand.
"I'll never stop caring about you either, Logan. I've been waiting nearly 2 years to see you again."
