After the Doctor had left, Rose's evening had become less exciting. Her conversation with River had been somewhat brief, but she knew that the Doctor was off to meet her. Rightly so. Rose could understand why the Doctor would be so fascinated with her story. Though she wasn't entirely sure how much the Doctor knew about River. Rose did. There were times where her curiosity got the better of her. Why else would she have wandered off all those times after the Doctor told her not to? Plus, sometimes a girl just needs to know what life was like after she's gone. It was harder to watch her Doctor on screen because of the pain he had gone through. His next face was easier to watch because like with all of the Doctor's new face, he was, in a lot of ways, a completely different person.
So she knew who River was and what she would mean to the Doctor later on. In some ways seeing the pair of them made her smile and laugh. She could certainly see why the Doctor would care so much about River. She could keep up with him, she had spunk and it was clear they were well matched. Despite all that, there was still a bit of uncertainty in Rose. Her story ended happier than most, and she already came to terms that she had chosen the meta-crisis Doctor. But that wasn't the same Rose living here in New York.
That was another Rose. Even the Rose that was here in the city before was someone she didn't know. She had chosen the meta-crisis Doctor. It pained her to read the interactions, but that was the choice she had made in an alternate life, but that wasn't the choice she had made here. Those two faces. The first Doctor she saw and the last, in her mind those two will always be her Doctors. Equal in affection, but there will always be the one in her mind.
By the time the Doctor had arrived, Rose had already fallen asleep, but it was the sound of the TARDIS that woke her. It had to be one of the few sounds in the world that could wake her up, and maybe it was because in the back of her mind, she was always waiting for that sound. It was one of the best sounds in the world. Her eyes were already open when he made his way into the bedroom.
"Doctor, oh good you're back." She yawned as she looked over at her clock to check the time. "Did you have a nice time with River?"
