Gwen looked up with surprise when he seemed to understand about telephathic sorts. She nodded, continuing. "I mean, we're both unusual for time travelers. I'm the only one who seems to be able to talk to ghosts and demons. And his ability to read minds, or, rather, intrude on them is definitely different. Until I had actually met the count, I had never considered that he might be...well, I didn't know what to think of him, other than I was told to be cautious by my mum but Gideon, he seemed to think he was powerful and the Guardians are all gaga for him. But after I met him, I sort of understood what my mum meant. And my cousin, who had stolen one of the chronographs and hidden in the past with her boyfriend, well, the Guardians made it seem like they were crazy or sinister, but I have a feeling they aren't. I don't know. But that's all just background to the dream."
Gwen took a breath and a long sip of tea, which was doing wonders for her nerves. She brushed tears away, feeling calmer now. She looked up at him with bright eyes shining, though she seemed less close to falling to pieces. "In my dream, he was strangling me without touching me. He said that I was the last because he would kill me, and that I had no idea what he would do. And the next thing I knew, I was falling and everything was red and black and I woke up." She stopped, and looked at him expectantly.
"I know, that's probably me freaking out too much."
