Everyone seemed old to Gwen. She longed to be able to see her best friend Lesley. Even her snobby, know-it-all cousin Charlotte would be ideal right now. She ignored the niggling feeling that popped in to remind her of Gideon, especially since she had only just hours before been joined at the lips with him. Why did boys have to be confusing idiots? Smug, beautiful, stupid idiots. She saw a few young-ish people, but they looked like they didn't want to talk, so if she was going to calm herself it looked like this bloke was her option.
Gwen smiled and shook her head at his comment. "I can't travel back more than 500 years or so, to the timeline of my oldest ancestor with the gene. There are 12 of us in all, and I'm the last. Anyway, we can't go to the future either, or even within our own timeline, so hopefully there would be limited damage to any timeline. There are rules to prevent, you know, unintended consequences and accidentally not being born or something like that." She looked up at him, shrugging. "It's weird to talk about it freely, it wasn't something I was allowed to speak about much. It's kind of freeing to talk about it with strangers."
