The thing with Loki was that he couldn't be trusted, which was sort of a no brainer, really. But Kaplan was somewhat of the opinion that Loki was a bit like the Oracle in the first Matrix movie. That he might lie, but more often than not it was because he was telling someone what they needed to hear. He couldn't overlook the fact that there was that one time that Loki had stopped him from committing suicide by, what he imagined now, was probably a lie. But it was told with all the best intentions. So when Loki took one look at Strange's book and expressed his immediate confusion, the hair on the back of Kaplan's next stood on end. He was sure that with all of Loki's knowledge and experience with the occult and magic, there was just no way that he could have been telling the truth. Instead, in Billy's mind, what Loki was doing was just trying to keep him away from Strange's book as much as possible. Of course, on the other hand, sometimes when Loki lied, it was because it served his best interests and his alone. He was a bit like the riddle of the Sphinx that way, and it was up to Billy to decide what direction to go in now. If he was going to listen to Loki or deliberately ignore his attempts to keep Kaplan away from the book. He wasn't sure which option would leave him, or anyone else involved in Strange's discovery, better off. Billy decided that his best course of action would be to go for a walk, clear his head, and try to decide for himself without Loki in his ear or the temptation of Strange and the book right in front of him. His walk lead him not far from the tower: just down to Battery Park, so he could stroll along the water's edge, maybe find himself a pretzel cart, and weigh his options on his own terms. |
